This is my other halfs 1st lurcher, she looks like a poor sod but thats because she's 17 years old now. She's a whippet x bull and hardly ever moves from that rug, she's going blind and deaf but we love her all the same and she was the best of the best in her hunting days. He got her as a pup when he was 11, he's now 28 and we only retired her last season due to ill health.

She once accidentally chased a fox through a barbed wire fence a ripped her chest completely open from between her front legs right to her stomach, my other half had to tie her up with his jumper to get her to the vet. She's been through it all she's a proper hunting dog and she's brought my whippet on a treat so she has!

my first lurcher was a collie /greyhound which i got when i was 14.she came from an rspca shelter in newcastle.the dog had been severley badly used.the two lads who owned her before i got her had tied her back legd behind her head and beat her to within inches of her life.there was an ongoing court case and it made the papers.the two lads were sentenced and stopped from keeping animals for life.i got the dog when she was 1 1/2 years old and she wouldnt trust anybody.i can still remember seeing her in her kennel at the animal shelter and falling in love with her over the other lurchers that were in there.i took me and my mother nearly a year to gain the dogs trust and a further 6 month after that to get the dog to full fitness and started giving her a bit of light work with the ferrets.there a few things i can remember about this dog,one was when she nearly took my uncles arm off when he was trying to be clever with her.he used to breed and race whippets and thought he could win the dogs trust.unfortunatley for him it didnt work and he got bit :D .my girlfriend who im with now was at my mothers house.we were sitting out side on a nice hot sunny day.my girlfriend needed to use the toilet and decided to go.the dog was lying in the passage way and gave her tail a wag as my girlfriend passed.after she had used the toilet my girlfriend went to come out of the front door, the dog decided she wasnt going nowhere and decided to pin he against the wall, well ive never heard a girl scream so loud :icon_eek: best of all was when one of my mates came to the house to buy an old hifi off me for his flat.i took him through the house so he could have a look at it,when he walked through the sitting room the old dog gave him the eye and went back to sleep.i could tell what she was thinking by the look on her face but i didnt say anything to him as i thought she would be ok.anyway he gave me the money for the hifi and took it away.i was still upstairs at this point and let him make his own way out.he got to the bottom of the stairs and opened the door, still with both hands full.all i heard after that was the dog going mental and him screaming.the dog had leapt off the chair,he had dropped the hi fi and decided to make a run for it...wrong move on his behalf :D ,by the time he made the front door ,the dog was firmly attached to his arse and i couldnt do anything for laughing.funnily enough he never ever came back.as for the dogs working ability and speed i couldnt fault her.she was probably one of the fastest dogs in my area at the time.a few of the lads who were into running dogs put there running dogs up against her but they come nowhere near her.i can remember being out with her one day on my local patch doing a bit of ferreting.i had been out from day break and never found an occupied burrow ,but at the time the rabbits were very scarce on the ground around here and yo were lucky if yo got one.i decided to work an old fox sett that was normally good for a single rabbit.i netted up and entered the old hob ferret.i didnt have to wait long and one bolted.as i was getting this rabbit out of the net another bolted from the same hole.the dog was straight onto it and that was number two in the bag.the dog went on to catch another two escapees, one of which she chased for some 40 + yards.so my total bag was five rabbits .i was the envy of he local lads and i was offered some silly money for the dog.but she went nowhere and remained with me til i finally had to have her put to sleep at the respectful age of 12.i was absolutley heart broken when she went and i didnt think she cold be replaced, until the dog ive got now came along.unfortunatley she is 13 now but she has seved me well and has been a top notch hunting companion  .R.I.P. jenna
