i find it hard to judge range when shooting up in trees as well. heres a method i learned from ray mears himself (it takes a little bit of hassle and you need a mate but this is the only thing i can think of):

get a stick and pace backwards from the tree you going to shoot onto until the stick looks the same hieght as the tree. then turn the stcik from the tree making sure the bottom end of the stick looks like its touchin the trunk of the tree at the bottom. then get your mate who is standing by the tree to walk out from the tree in 1 yard steps until he reaches what looks like the end of the stick which is whnen you shout stop then your mate tels you how many yards he stepped out of the tree and that will be the hieght of the the tree. hope you understand but it works well.

Hello mate I used to have the same problem when shooting into trees especially with the duplex reticle on my scope. When I change to mill dot scope after a bit of practice I learned how to size up the quarry against the dots. e.g. with my scope on 4 magnification at 20 yards a squirrel would fill up just over 3 dots. I don’t know if I’ve explained this well enough because I’m dyslexic :duh: but I found it easer to judge what range I was shooting with a mill dot reticle and the more I practiced the easer it got. atb bedrock
