inan 841
if you have a length of rope and a bit less than half way down it you tie a loop, you could put one end through the loop and then you would be left with a loop big enough to go over the head, hold both ends and to slip the dog just let go of the end thats been put through the loop, hope you can understand what I mean by that, I'll post a pic of one I made later on. Ive used this method ,and my mate still does.Nowadays I use a nylon lead with the clip cut off ,threaded through the collar,I have all the collars marked with my phone no in case a dog gets disorientated and lost. Never had a problem with running a dog in a collar ,before anyone raises that issue, and it can be handy ,if you need to pull a dog off something quickly. The toggle slips are too fiddly imo, especially when refastening them at night. I have another one, a long leather lead with a collar a third of the way ,and a ring stitched to it the other end of the lead goes through it, the first part has a built in loop that fits over your wrist, this works well but occasionally a dog learns to back out of them. Smokey ,my blue dog is a night mare ,because when anything jumps .if I dont let him go he will bite at the lead and do cartwheels, and you end up with a windlass on your wrist, and sod's law something will jump just then. foodsy 0
i was under the impression that greyhound / whippet collars were thicker to add support to the neck when running?? kinda like a weight lifters thick belt. Quote Link to post

Garypco 2
same here never had a problem with running a dog with a collar on..the only thing i ever got was bite marks on the collar...ie if the dog had no collar then theres more chance of being bitten on the throat!!! Guest hunterside
Hi all,i dont bother with fancy slip leads or bits of string, all i use is a cheap nylon doglead, all i do is cut the lead to size, burn the frayed end, loop the clip back on itself, slip this round your wrist then loop the other end through the dog collar, cheap simple and theres no way you can loose it or drop it in the dark, unless you loose your arm lol.
