pegandgun 52
have just got back fron a couple of hours with the 2X100yard long nets.Me and my son done three drops of the nets on some grass land about 40 miles from my house. The 1st drop we got 31 rabbits the 2nd drop baggad 16 and the last drop we netted 41.All the rabbits were big and heavy the only problem we had was on the last drop when a rabbit bit through the foot rope of one of the nets even though both foot and head ropes are black.I wanted to do another couple of drops but my son was tired so we called it a night with 88 rabbits. We were using 41/4" mesh with 100% bag in the nets which works very well but ive just put an order in for some 41/2" mesh which i cant wait to string and pole up and use.Ill put a picture up in the morning of the rabbits we netted its a bit too late now lol. Anyone interested in the set up i use and want to purches a 100yard net with 41/4" mesh and ready to use just give me a pm....P&G Quote Link to post

Ime out again tonight and its an even better wind so ime going to do a few of the better drops on the estate one of which i got my record of 68 rabbits off 100yds of net.Got a good feeling that record is in danger this season judging by the numbers of rabbits this year. Ian if i take you and teach you how to use a long net properly you will only tell all the farmers you taught yourself and that you no1 LMAO.Ian get your arse round hear tomorrow and show me how to put pics on this site plz,you said i need a cable and you had one didnt you... I used a 100yrd last year and thought because the fibreglass poles I had where so strong I would get away with 8 yards, the net set ok, But when I got more than one rabbit in a section, they pulled the top line to the ground, making it low enough for others to get over Quote Link to post
oakey 57
dont know much about longneting but i'm wondering about the 4.25inc mesh size ? i do tie a few purse nets and i use 2.25inc mesh? Quote Link to post

Fat-Ferret 857
Peg, Whats the best way to set the end poles then? And by tieing in every 2 yards you mean the bagging? Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
Yeh the bagging i take the time and count the meshes into each two yard pocket which helps the net sit perfectly. The two end poles need to be pushed well into the ground and set vertical so that the rest of the net automatically site right and the top rope is tight then you finnish off with the last pole which fully tentions the hole net....Thanks...P&G Quote Link to post

It stops them dead, hardly a bounce off, but I got ridiculed on here for using it. Keep us posted. ian. Quote Link to post

[/quote I still dont think you can beat a good quality hemp net Ian.I think you can go to 4 3/4" mesh no problem because of the lack of stretch in the hemp as appossed to the stretch on a nylon net which as you know has alot of stretch in it.I find that with the larger mesh size you get less dammage do your nets due to rabbits chewing plus the rabbits are far easier to empty out of the net in the dark.I was out two nights ago with catapiller off this site,we done three quick drops and bagged 42 big clean rabbits even though there was a nice wind there was too much moon so we could only do a couple of blind sets, if you waited for those perfect black windy nights you would hardly get out with the nets...Thanks...P&G Quote Link to post
