whippeter69 88
If I wanted to apply for a FAC shotgun when i apply for a FAC license, what should i write down on the application sheet? And also, where should i write down that i would like MODERATED rifles. Thanks, Whippeter Quote Link to post

Ferreting and pigeon shooting, and also lamping rabbits. Why is there something wrong ? thats a good reason to me, pigoen shooting when more than 3 shots may be necesary to finish off winged pigoens and for taking bigger bags if a flock comes in at once. mattydski 560
Ask your self how many pigeon shooters cope suitably without an FAC rated gun..........you need to be able to justify why you need an FAC rated shotgun. It is not a simple as saying you want one. Even if you already have an FAC and put it in as a variation. Then your FAC will list which target species you can legitimately shoot. So if you have it for pigeon control and see a rabbit, you can not shoot it.You may get it on a closed ticket, which means you will only be ale to shoot it on the land approved..etc There are circumstances where professional vermin controllers can use them in niche circumstances...but for sport i would stick to the SGC route, far more flexible. IMHO you will struggle to get FAC shotgun, without a lot of luck, or a very understanding FEO. Quote Link to post
Guest hyperion
chap i go shooting with has got an eleven shot semi auto 12G! ive had a go with it and to be honest its a hoot to fling £3 worth of lead into the sky all in one go but its like firing an ak ak gun from the shoulder and if you cant hit what ever your shooting at after three shots if you havent got it clamped into your shoulder its pointing stright up by the time you have fired shot number six! plus if youve ever sat on the right hand side of some one using the anti aircraft gun in a pigeon hide you soon get bored of being pelted with spent shotgun cases every time some thing comes near the hide! my opinion would be they are great fun but if your not used to it you cant shoot for toffee with them and unless you have a constant stream of targets or a huge flock of birds over head pretty pointless too! cheers hyperion Quote Link to post

Now......not looking to start an argument..but I would be careful who you tell, because it is unlikely he will have game listed on his ticket. It is the same as shooting non target species with a rifle, when you have a shotgun listed as an FAC... be very careful. They have their place, but game shooting is not one of them.. mattydski 560
I have never heard of an FAC shotgun being ticketed for that purpose, so I stand to be corrected if that's the case. Anyone else heard of that? But those circumstances are still completely different to standing in a line in front of beaters. Quote Link to post

mattydski 560
http://police.homeoffice.gov.uk/publicatio...pdf?view=Binary If you check on page 72 and 73, it specifically mentions good reasons to hold or posses a firearm.......(FAC shotgun) Anyone applying for such a condition should be aware of these conditions... Under the conditions listed it states that they are for use only on 'Avian species' such as pigeon and crows, and only vermin. With out being rude... if he has got the condition listed he will be very lucky. Quote Link to post
