StewartBell29 0 Posted August 28, 2009 Report Share Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) Hello Folks, I'm completely new to lamping and i'm looking for a bit of advice. How do you make the dog follow the beam and therefore see the rabbit? I thought about shining it on his bowl of meat in the back garden until he realises there is something good at the end of this light! Once the dog follows the lamp, i take it you just want to follow the rabbit when it bolts? Any other tips or advice you can give would be good. the great white hunter 1 Posted August 28, 2009 Report Share Posted August 28, 2009 your best off going to a place riddled with rabbits and when you start lamping try to get the rabbits that are clapped(the rabbit layed tight to the floor) and walk closely as you can and get the rabbit to lift in front of the dogs face and he should problys chase it thats wat i do atb great white Quote Link to post
Dosser 52 Posted August 28, 2009 Report Share Posted August 28, 2009 Does your dog retrieve ? if so take him out at night with a dummy and "lamp" the dummy for him to retrieve. If not youll have to run him off a slip till you know hes sighted, he'll pickit up eventually. Good luck. Quote Link to post

We've got a collie that is obsessed with rabbits, he chases them whenever we come across them. So was thinking about trying him at the lamping! Just didn't know how to get him to follow the beam! Aye he probably won't be quick enough but i thought if i got a clapped rabbit then he might have a chance. Plus it might give him some mental exercise cos he is "wired".
