ive never owned one but seen a few working and i personally think they make excellent little rabbiting, ferreting dogs a few mates and relatives have had them over the years and they swear by them especially for day time work, ive never really seen one on the lamp so cant comment on that, hope this is of some help, all the best, jay.

Fantastic ferreting dogs,but a little short in the leg to be great lamping dogs.Be warned,they can be very headstrong,some yap,some hunt on,and once they decide they want something you'll have a hard time changing there mind.If you know what you are doing and put the time into the dog you wont be dissapointed.

I own a 7 month old beddy/grey/non ped whippet and after having kept lurchers since my teens and am now aproaching 50.I tend to think with this hybred its the luck of the draw as the bitch i have i am convinced that its got some form of canine autisim but her smooth haired litter brother is a tottally diferent type of dog behaviour wise.atvb dell

I got two beedy whippet types and their just under 22inch and i lamp some big feilds in carmarthenshire and they got the leg to run any feild and anything thats in front of them i would recomend to anyone they will lamp all night no p robs

While we are on the subject, what would your choice of whippet be to cross with the beddy, non ped or ped. and reasons why.

I have a 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddie and she's a star!!!

 

She is keen to please and whilst she can be a little head strong, we've had no real problems.

 

I haven't found her height (approx 20") to hinder her much, if she's in long grass or some sort of cover, she springs - a bit like a gazelle(lol!!) til she sights it and then she's away to go. Intelligent, starting to forward think, not hard mouthed, works the lamp and not worried about following into hedges/brambles, although she is much closer in looks to the whippet than the beddie, I think her hair is a little coarser than a straight whippet.

 

A lovely cross, all the best if you decide to go ahead and get one.

 

Oh, and out of interest, her sire is a pedigree whippet. Not sure what it really matters though, as long as they do the job.

was thinking of getting one myself,heard good stuff about them,i am in ireland area,cant seem to get a good wee lamping dog for rabbits at all,but takeing my time mate.

My bitch is 18.5 tts,she is very quick,has great stamina,can turn like she's on rails,but on uneven ground at night she struggles,and thats because she can't see the quarry.

Put two marks on a stick,one at 19 inches and another at 24-25.Crouch down and place your eyes next to the first mark and then the second,you'd be amazed at the difference.
