How would I stop my terrier from eating the ferret

Recommended Posts

deppends on what age you're terrier is if he's a mature dog then you have a job on you're hands if he's a pup then just introduce them carefully if he tries to eat you're ferret give him a good smack and make sure he knows what for then just repeat !

good luck

Get a damn good grip on that dogs collar and take him into the shed where you keep the ferret - better that than 'bringing him dinner'. Put the ferret on the floor and let it come up and approach the dog, all the time growling to the dog to " Leeeeeave it! ".

One thing's for sure; That ferrets gonna sniff the dogs nose and probably have an exploratory nip at it. Carry on as above. There's your starter for ten.

Should the ferret go doo lally and take a full on Grip of the dogs nose? Might as well let the f***ing dog go and start again later, with a fresh ferret!

Take your time and do it in small stages. Initial meeting. Then a couple of minutes next day. Build up to the full five minutes of the dog not going completely ape shit. So on. But, no, basicly it's all about 'simply' getting it through to the dog that this, like kiddies and other things, is 'Yours' and not to be killed or messed with.

Best of luck. Don't expect miracles over night :good:

Then let it know that you and the ferrets are past lovers.

:clapper: Perfectly put!

And, of course, if that doesn't work, there's always the little " Meet Jesus " talk. That too can work wonders on an understanding dog

well if you have terriers like the ones i have here your wasting your time my terriers are still pups about 8 month and when i got some kits home and had them in there huch i let the terriers out to wash them out and feed them , when i turned round they had the ferret huch in there mouths shakeing it like a rag , i spent a few days trying to brake them to the kits but with no joy i dont like hitting my dogs but the terriers got a good few slaps and a wee bit of a chokeing with there colars and it didnt make no ods , everytime they was let out of there run they ran straight for the ferrets , in the end i put the ferrets back to my m8s and that was that as long as ive got these two terriers i know im never going to have ferrets , i think the only way to brake ferrets with terriers is to raise the terriers from pups with ferrets , :thumbs-up:

would never ever trust mine completely with them either and all except the russell were brought up with them :icon_redface: Though they've learned to behave when Im around - they'd dearly love to nab one if I turn my back for a minute, but they wouldnt dare :D
