At what age did your lurcher Peak?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all your posts, thats great to hear it seems to be about 4years old. I also can't imagine her getting any better but if she does she will definatly in the ranks of my best owned bitch of all time, she's already getting there at 2years old!

It's just a joy to watch these running dogs do there work, i have done very little training with her she just seems to know what to do day and night and just when to turn, in fact i think shes training me half the time. lol.

Cheers guys,

SimonBilly.

In my Opinion, if you have a nice fit and steady lurcher, thats ready to run with no serious injury having previous, in my experience a lurcher peaks at the age of 4.......

I believe this is because a working lurcher should no its game, take all quarry and put it soul into alls its game that it pursuits....unfortuanetly this doesnt occur as much as it should, due to the shit thats being bred in my opinion.. ;)

Peaking in my experiance is all about confidence and fitness. If a dog/bitch isnt fit and confident in its own abilities then its never going to peak. Sure it will work well from time to time but peaking is a state which should last for a couple of seasons at least. I tend to find that a dog/bitch will peak at about the age of 4/5 years. By the time a dog/bitch reaches 7 of age then its time to slow it down a little. A working lurchers life in the field is short lived once its done its apprenticeship imo. So to get the best out of your dog/bitch, keep it fit and work it within its own capabilities. atb stabba
