Kid with adult buck

Today,

 

 

Whilst calling roe deer with a buttolo call, a large buck shot towards us barking, soon followed by a young deer kid. Has anyone any idea why the kid is with the buck, rather than the doe.

 

 

 

 

Is this normal behaviour or is it highly likely that the mother has been shot.

 

 

 

Ofcourse, the buck was left.

it could be a doebuck, female with antlers maybe? i have seen it before.

If the doe is dead ,the kid will stay with whatever will put up with it .There was a roe kid last year that lost its mum on a nearby estate , and attached itself to a fallow doe,only parting when the roe rut came along as it was a buck .

the after rut could be in swing.any doe that has not taken will be chased up.

older bucks know this and as long as enough testosterone will spring to a call like its the end of july.

can be quite teretorial still.

as for the kid, are you sure it was a buck? (as mentioned above they are still a bit anti)

as for doe buck, they are in my experiance also quite aggressive towards other deer( mostly raised testosterone is the cause,normally due to old age/hormane inbalance) the likelyhood of her bearing kids/tolerating them anywhere near is not high at all.

 

i shot a lady boy which i had watched attack four other roe within an hour.she drove them off the orchard like a teretorial banschee.she weighed 16kilo.normally she would have had around 18 kilo

and had only buttons on her head.the teeth were right down ( hence the low weight) her age around 8 years.
