matulkoh 66
just a question, why do y think she is a working dog? why plenty of lads think thez got a workin terrier if it does bushing? if z wanna bushing dog buy a spaniel, working terrier is the one which is working down in earth foxes, badgers, martens,...... and if it does on surface wild boars, rows, reds, ducks.... it s plus for the owner. so if she didnt past the test down in earth for several times she is not WORKING TERRIER Quote Link to post
sh 08 17
She does go to ground and works realy well thanks, the dog was on the lamp in the middle of the field and it got tangled up with something. she stood her ground thats all im saying. Anyway if someone buys a terrier purely for bushing and the dog does the job its been boughtfor i would say its a working dog. Just because its not getting smashed week after week...... think about it!!!! Edited September 7, 2009 by sh 08 Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
I get a bit fed up with this macho snobbery about not being able to call a terrier a workin dog if you use it for bushing rabbits. Bedlingtons are made for the job, with excellent noses and pace enough for the odd catch between bushes and if you want a dog also to do a bit of ratting then a bedlington is more useful than a spaniel. I think bedlingtons are great little all rounders so if bushing is what you enjoy and your dog works doing that then so be it, it's working. Nobody says a word when you say a lurcher is working when it's just used for rabbits! Quote Link to post

The Bedlington as a sporting breed has been on the decline for years now, obviously mainly down to the idiot show brigade. However, in recent years far too many poor grade so called working Bedlingtons have been bred for "bushing" etc. This in my opinion is a slow death for the working Bedlington. Bushing, mooching, call it what you will, is fine - I do it all the time. But I wouldn't breed from a Bedlington dog or bitch who couldn't prove it has what it takes against more testing quarry. So have your bushing Beddies by all means, enjoy them and have fun with them - no better nose in the terrier world IMO. But personally, I wouldn't breed from them. david2363 42
My Bedlington and other Bedlingtons I know, "proved themselves" last year on a number of occasions. I didn't break the law once. When you know what you are talking about, by all means come back and tell us what you know. Edited September 7, 2009 by david2363 Quote Link to post
