Fidgety 8
As above, what is the official stance on using expanding and ballistic tips? I'd like to have a session there, but will need to use hunting ammo. Cheers Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
No regulations say that you may not, so there's no problem with using it. You are not generally allowed to for competition though, since the purely target folks can't buy it... Quote Link to post
scarecrow243 24
FMJ only on any range if you dont have the authorty to purchase fmj ammo just ask someone at the range they should sell you some Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Local club (not MOD) is ball ammo only. Thanks chaps. Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Although I haven’t been for a while I’m pretty sure last time I was told FMJ only… expanding sprays all over the backs of the target boards and makes the shot markers a little ‘nervous’ apparently. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
I read the Bisley range regs, it does not say either way, therefore, for Bisley, no regulation stops you. Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Good news Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
you can use them at minsterley range as i have used them. but on the proper target ranges im not sure. as i dont target shoot. besides the 22/250 is over most range fps limits Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Thanks for your input folks! Mr L, where can i read up on the Bisley regs? Cheers Quote Link to post

Fidgety 8
Cheers .......... now why couldn't i find that when i looked on the NRA site??!! Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
As already reported Expanding ammo is allowed at Bisley. There may well be a ban on it for "some" competitions, and possibly at some other ranges, but for general shooting at Bisley it IS allowed! Quote Link to post

There may well be a ban on it for "some" competitions, and possibly at some other ranges, but for general shooting at Bisley it IS allowed! I cannot pretend to speak from recent experience here, but back when I was target shooting the whole point of the rules on types of bullets/loads was that everybody should be using the same ammo. That way it's your skill as a shooter that makes the difference. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Ric, rules on competition and range regulations are not one and the same. Most all competitions bar you from using expanding ammo, but it's allowed on the range. Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Ric, rules on competition and range regulations are not one and the same. Most all competitions bar you from using expanding ammo, but it's allowed on the range. Fair comment. I should have thought it through, because the law specifically permits the use on an appropriate range of expanding/fragmenting bullets, and of hand loads, for accustomisation to the rifle with the ammo to be used in the field, and for zeroing sights. Once more Mr L, I bow to your superior wisdom! Thanks. Ric Quote Link to post
