MOD ranges and expanding ammo

Recommended Posts

Although I haven’t been for a while I’m pretty sure last time I was told FMJ only… expanding sprays all over the backs of the target boards and makes the shot markers a little ‘nervous’ apparently.

As already reported Expanding ammo is allowed at Bisley.

There may well be a ban on it for "some" competitions, and possibly at some other ranges, but for general shooting at Bisley it IS allowed!

I cannot pretend to speak from recent experience here, but back when I was target shooting the whole point of the rules on types of bullets/loads was that everybody should be using the same ammo. That way it's your skill as a shooter that makes the difference.

Ric, rules on competition and range regulations are not one and the same. Most all competitions bar you from using expanding ammo, but it's allowed on the range.

Fair comment. I should have thought it through, because the law specifically permits the use on an appropriate range of expanding/fragmenting bullets, and of hand loads, for accustomisation to the rifle with the ammo to be used in the field, and for zeroing sights. Once more Mr L, I bow to your superior wisdom! Thanks.
