Catcher 1 639
just read this on the web, Published Date: 05 August 2009 POLICE have arrested three men at Claughton on suspicion of illegal hare coursing. The three, understood to be from the Chorley area, were arrested at Lydiate Lane, Claughton, following reports that people had been seen hunting hares with dogs in a wooded area. Their vehicle, dogs and mobile phones were seized by police following the early morning tip-off and a dead hare was taken as forensic evidence. The suspects have been released on police bail until September 29. The arrests follow on from a high profile investigation into hare coursing in Garstang and Over Wyre in December when police raided homes in Heysham and Lancaster. Wildlife officers and RSPCA officials revealed that illegal hunting with dogs, including fox hunting, hare coursing and badger baiting, is rife in the Garstang area. Hare coursing and other rural 'sports' involving hunting with hounds are banned under the 2004 Hunting Act. The raids followed calls to police from farmers in Out Rawcliffe and Winmarleigh. Lancashire Police Wildlife Officer PC Duncan Thomas said: "The Garstang area contains wide expanses of quality, flat farmland which provide perfect conditions for a variety of wildlife, including hares. "Unfortunately, it also makes it a prime spot for illegal hare coursing and we are aware of people travelling some distance to the Garstang area to commit these crimes.'' PC Dave Kerfoot of Garstang police said: "Lancashire Constabulary remains committed to preventing and detecting this crime which is of significant interest to the local community and wish to extend their thanks to the members of the community who reported and assisted with this incident.'' What a f--king mess this country is in. 3.000.000 out of work.Knife and gun crime out of control. What do the plod do.All the above.and spend my fecking tax money doing it.Must have cost about £10.000 to fine some youngster £50 quid. bobby harris 0
A MAN has admitted hare coursing in Therfield, near Royston, in what is thought to be the first conviction of its kind in the UK. Jimmy Cash, 45, was spotted poaching by police on Sandon Road in the village, at around 8am on October 21 last year. Royston’s rural officer, Pc Paul Marina, was one of those on the scene. He said: "I saw Jimmy Cash walk to an area of farmland and then release his dog that coursed but never caught a hare. "The lurcher then ran to the officer who seized the dog whilst other offices arrested Mr Cash." At Stevenage Magistrates’ Court, Cash was convicted of one offence contrary to the Hunting Act 2004 and another poaching offence. Cash, of Lybury Lane, Redbourn, was fined £350 for each offence, and ordered to pay £400 costs and £15 compensation. It is thought to be the first conviction of its type under the Hunting Act. Pc Marina added: "Hare coursing has a very negative effect on our rural communities and it is important we target those responsible. We carry out proactive patrols in our rural communities to combat these crimes and positive results such as these are hugely important to deter others from committing similar offences. "I hope this sends a clear message to criminals that we take hare coursing seriously and will take action against offenders." A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police said Pc Marina had reduced incidents of hare coursing in North Hertfordshire by more than 60 per cent since he joined the Royston rural team in 2003. He is considered as one of the country's top authorities in preventing hare coursing and frequently uses his knowledge of traffic legislation and the illegal use of red diesel to deter offenders from hare coursing. he wasnt the first person to get this me and a couple of my cousins got caught near Royston and had the dogs took off us for 2 months and lost the motor the man who was arguing the case for the prosecution made us look verry bad saying we were having a bet and putting 2 and 3 dogs on the same hare he was ruining us so we made a beal to plead giulty only if we got the dogs back we were finned 395 pound all together Quote Link to post
Wild_and_Irish 11
yes i agree, while all the mugging and killings are going on around the country the police are chasing the poor guy and his dog, here is Ireland most Garda[irish police]dont know much about the law of [lamping, hare coursing, fox digging.of ferretting]so most time you can tell them a load of lies and they believe you. My father was caught by a bailiff a few years ago in Donegal with my brother fishing a pool that was banned with no licence, and you know what he told the bailiff? I was just showing him how to cast and acted stupid about licences, he got away no problem whatsoever Quote Link to post
