:D Ohhhh, DuckWing! I think, with These photo's, you spoil us!!! :clapper: Absolutley f***ing Class, mate! Brilliant!

So, are ye going to give us a clue where to search for such a ~ I presume it's a ~ book??? I'd just about kill for a copy! This sort of thing just makes my eyeballs bleed and my mouth water! God knows why; I never had anything to do with it. I'm sure it must be a stroke of Reincarnation or else a Genetically encoded Nostalgia? What do You think it is that gives us such an undeniable thrill out of examining stuff like this? I mean, we weren't even born then!

Actually, I was considering, not so long back now, producing a batch of photographs sort of recreating some of the stuff we used to see in the old books - books that were damn old, even when we weren't. Badmington Library idea. Just mock ups, obviously; Make an old fashioned style set, shoot it and dismantle it again.

I think I might have hinted at this to a back water forum I was visiting at the time. But then I appear to have said something which set them running for the hills, away from me  Never quite worked out what happened there. I'm the last person to go around breaking modern laws and causing trouble.

Anyway, I'm Very distracted right now as I'm desperate to get into town today and nothing's happening. Also, much of my stuff's all packed away and inaccessable to me without some gargantuan struggle. But maybe, presently, I'll be able to start pulling some bits out and joining you in this eye feast :good:

Maybe we could kick off our own little " History Chanell ", right here, eh? :D

I HAVE AN HUGE INTEREST IN THE BYGONE DAYS NOSTALGIA

FROM ENGINEERING FEATS TO FARMING PRACTICES ........... TO BE HONEST JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING

IVE GROWN UP LISTENING TO TALES OF EVERYTHING FROM FIGHTING TO FINCH CATCHING , TALES OF LOCALS THAT COULD LITTERALLY CALL A BULLY OR GOLDIE DOWN TO WANDS / TRAPS OR A NET

MEN THAT TICKLED , SNARED OR NETTED TROUT . .... USED A CATTY TO GIVE THEM THE EDGE WHEN HUNTING GAME IN A TIME WHEN YOU CAUGHT OR ATE " VEG " ..........

MEN THAT .............." HUNTED "...........INSTEAD OF THE LADS OF TODAY DOING DAYTIME / NIGHTIME COURSING

I COULD GO ON AND ON .............. HOWEVER THE POINT IS ............. ITS ONE HELL OF A SHAME TO SEE THESE OLD PRACTICES FORGOTTEN ABOUT AND THROWN IN THE DUSTBIN

I SEE FROM MY RECENT EDITION OF THE EDRD THAT THE WARRENER HAS HAD A GO CREATING A DVD WITH SOME OLD PRACTISES ON IT ...... I AINT SEEN IT SO HOW GOOD A JOB HES MADE GOD ONLY KNOWS . I STILL HAVE QUITE A FEW TAPED PROGRAMS OF JACK HARGREAVES " OLD COUNTRY " A MAN THAT DEDICATED A HUGE AMOUNT OF TIME AND EFFORT INTO FILMING DISSAPEARING COUNTRY PRACTICES ........... I OFTEN WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LARGE AMOUNT OF OLD FILM REELS HE HAD STORED

:clapper: F*** Yes!!! Know what, DW; I've been working my way up through the New Posts list and was aware that you'd answered on this one. I was dying to see what might be going on but discipline myself to take things in order.

As it happens, I've also brought home a new - on me - brand of Boxty to try out. (Boxty? It's a food thing. Perculiar to Co. Leitrim. Nice ;)). The Boxty became ready just as this thread popped open and I sat back down to, hopefully, enjoy both in unison. I think your response is giving me that edge more enjoyment than this Boxty! :D

Great! A man after my own heart! " ITS ONE HELL OF A SHAME TO SEE THESE OLD PRACTICES FORGOTTEN ABOUT AND THROWN IN THE DUSTBIN. " Not if I have anything left in me to do about it, mate! You too, by the sounds of it? Good!

DW, I research, search for, collect and catalogue 'The Old Stuff'. I've got right up next to some of the most informed people in their fields and have absorbed all they could give. I'll stop at Nothing! Only thing that troubles me now is what the hell to Do with what I've amassed?! Seriously! As you probably know yeself; There's only the one museum in UK with the financial clout and widespread backing to take on and preserve the sort of stuff guys like us are scratching about for and keeping safe. But I've checked: They're no 'safer', in the long run, than our own damn mortallitys :( Only needs a change of Curator and these Institutions won't hesitate to chuck entire bequeathals onto bloody eBay, to make room (and Money!) for the new boys preferance. It's a bitch and a damn worrying one at that.

Books are the answer, in part at least, of course. Fora like this come and go. Cyber space is fickel. But, even if we manage to record all we have and know about it in a book? Well; Examine any childs book of dinosaurs ..... Still can't go anywhere and examine a pukka T Rex, can you? We may hold the very last few examples of some Holy Relic left in existance. When we go; Who's to take the Torch? My own arms are already growing heavy with torches from older men. I'm getting to the age and point now that I'd like to have a point where I know I may safely lay down my burden, for posterity. I don't see the next 'Collector' as the answer. Do you?

I'm troubling myself here. Bringing my mood down. Not good. Jack Hargreaves ? :D What A Man! As widely and heartily despised by 'Those Who Know / Walkers of the Walk' as Plummer is by this generation. Why, for gods sake?! Alright, I've heard enough of the bloody storys - and from men I Know speak the complete and unbiased truth: Jack Hargreaves couldn't catch a f***ing cold and couldn't tell a Great Tit from a 'Spanials Ear'. So F***ing What??? The man was a bloody National Institution!!!

You talk about " The Old Country "? Jesus H. Christ! How old are you? Don't you remember Out of Town ?! I, and a whole bloody nation, grew up with That programme! It's what wednesday nights were all about ~ till they realised Just how popular it was and moved it to a Prime Time Friday slot! Yeppers! Imagine that; Shooting things, ferreting, old countryside skills and impliments on prime time tv! The nation lapped it up - never a Word of complaint from the f***ing 'Anti's'!

I firmly, personally, believe that's because dear old Jack simply presented things as they were. He never raised his voice. Never became unduly excited. Never tried to argue or excuse what simply was. He wasn't out to fight or convert anyone. You could always switch over to Fanny Craddock or what ever. (Now she did get 'emotional')

And so on and so forth. I've banged on quite enough here, tonight. Bloody shame all this is being beaten out beneath such an uninspiring Thread heading. Vast majority of readers here will never find this turn in the topical point of discussion :( Still, never mind them; We've got something going here, mate. Let's see what we can knock out of it, eh? Over to you! :good:

BOXTY  ....... DONT LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT ............... THOUGH I COULD MAKE A BUSINESS OUT OF SENDING PEASE PUDDING TO A MATE IN BALINASOE  , HE AND HIS FRIENDS ARE GOING THROUGH IT LIKE PIGS AT A TROUGH :)

YEP ............. I REMEMBER OUT OF TOWN :D ............ ONLY THING IS NO BLOODY VCRs AT THE TIME FOR US TO TAPE ON , ALL WE HAD WAS A RENTED TV :) . THE THING IS WITH OLD JACK , HE WAS A GENTLEMAN ....HAD A WAY OF PUTTING INFORMATION OVER IN A MANNER WHICH DIDNT SOUND LIKE A DOCUMENTRY PREACHING ............... MAYBE HE HAD NOT THE SKILL TO PLOUGH A STRAIGHT FURROW BEHIND A CLYDESDALE , OR PROFESSIONALLY CLEAR A FIELD OF RABBITS BY SNARE , ..........BUT...........HE WOULD GO TO SOMEONE WHO COULD , AND CAPTURE IT ON FILM FOR POSTERITY ..... FOR THAT AND INSPIRING A YOUNG BOY I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL

I LOVE BOOKS .. AND HAVE A LARGE AND VARIED COLLECTION ............. HOWEVER TO ME A FILM WATCHING....... SAY....... A FELLA CALL DOWN A GOLDIE TO A WAND OR A TRAP , SET IN POSITION AND THEN CATCHING , IS THE ULTIMATE IN CAPTURING THE ART OR ESSENCE ........... SOMETHING NO AUTHOR COULD DESCRIBE ADEQUATELY

No video's? Too true, mate :( Fred Dinage was a great friend of his. Pity they both worked for ITV. If it had been the beeb, they'd likely have fished it all out of the recordings library and had it out on DVD by now.

I wonder ....?
