Hi all

Just got a new whippet dog from a family who didn't want it anymore, it's 16 months old, and he doesn't want to know on the lamp. I have taken him out a couple of times, but he just messes about sniffing the ground and generally being an arse. He doesn't follow the lamp either.

The trouble is, he's probably the quickest dog i have ever seen, he can turn on a penny and has some serious stamina.

Anybody got any ideas on what i need to do to get him sorted, either by keeping persevering or training somehow.

Help :big_boss:

At 16 months old he is not much more than a puppy he won't lamp because he does not know what lamping is or what you expect from him make a rabbit skin dummy play with him with the dummy get him to retrieve the dummy once thats going well take him in the garden at night hold the dog throw the dummy then light up the dummy with a lamp or torch encourage him to go & pick up his dummy if he does this make a big fuss with loads of praise continue the same thing for a few days & all will start to click in the day drag the dummy tied on a pole in front of the dog encourage him to chase the dummy go in circles & from side to side he will soon learn what you want from him once he has mastered these few basic things take him lamping alone look for a squatter & walk him as close as you can if you have to kick it up all the better slip him & he should do the rest if he misses the rabbit no worries repeat over & over again the penny will soon drop.
