thanks mate but just went on basc and rang local gun shop and they both say 1 sep to 31 jan ????????

Have a look on Natural England ( http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/r...allicences.aspx

Look at the License to take certain birds to prevent serious damage or disease and you'll find that you may shoot the Greater Canada goose at anytime.

You can download the actual license.

Unless there has been another revision of the Wildlife and countryside act, the birds were put on the general license a few years back.

hi all are canda geese under the sep1 till jan31 law or are they all year round game to ba taken whenever??????????????

Linked question. In the ordinary way you need a Natural England Wildlife permit to shoot game birds with a shotgun having a magazine capacity of more than 2 rounds. You can, however, get an FAC conditioned to allow the purchase, and use for control of corvids and pigeons, of a long magazine shotgun.

Can you use such a shotgun to shoot geese? Well, I know you can but may you?

GENERAL LICENCES TO CONTROL CANADA GEESE

The Canada goose was first added to three general licences in England by DEFRA on 1st March 2005 as provided for by the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. As of 1st January 2008 Natural England is responsible for the issuing of these licences for the following purposes only;

to prevent serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber, fisheries or inland waters.

to preserve public health or public safety.

air safety.

It is important to remember that these licences have clearly-defined terms and conditions. Anybody carrying out control of Canada geese under them may need to prove, if questioned by authorities, that they are fully in compliance with the terms and conditions. If they cannot do so they may be liable to prosecution.

Copies of the general licences can be found at

http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/conservat...genlicences.htm

It is recommended that before undertaking control of the geese, you familiarize yourself fully with the detail of these licences. Note you do not have to carry copies of the licences.

any help going sat and need to find out??

No! Now I'm no expert on this subject but I did look in to it awhile back due to being offered 200 acres of prime goose air field.

AFAIK older guns can not handle steel shot, you need chromed barrels or barrels designed for steel shot, which most modern shotguns are. My old Spanish SBS most certainly is not. If you have an older gun, your going to need Bismuth or Tungsten matrix shot, which to say the very least is not cheap. In fact I fell about on the floor when the RFD said £35 per 10!!
