Guest the techno viking
sure it would no it wouldnt any dog can pick up squatters they aint that hard are they?? so then "the techno viking" you think for some silly reason a SPANIEL is up for the ammount of work that a lurcher is. so please tell me how a SPANIEL would be able to catch rabbits on the run, catch bolting rabbits whilst ferreting. yeah a different variety of dogs would be able to pick squatters up but come on how many squatters do you get really. round my way im lucky to see 1 or 2 squatting bunnys. atb only said squatters fella not runners and spaniels catch alot more than lurchers in cover to so if your bushing they are of great use!!!!!!! and you only have lamp shy rabbits if you keep missing them!!!!!!! i see loads of squatters and im only up brian clough way so cant be that different can they??? so it was obviously a daft thing to say then. why would i choose a spaniel just for catching squatting rabbits or to work bushland areas when my lurcher can do that and more. when starting of a pup you miss a few and im not the only one who lamps the areas i do. i agree if my lurcher would not work up bushland areas a spaniel would be great use. obviously different areas hold different quantaties of rabbits. its going to be different. atb your lurcher does not work thick cover like a spaniel and you know it!!!!! i mean brambles and other really thick stuff like that Edited August 24, 2009 by the techno viking Quote Link to post

n dev 0
well thought i would go and have a shine over a bit of permission and i had a exciting night. it started of with young "kye" taking his first retrieved hare on lamp which i was very pleased about and it was also a decent size. we carried on our travel further and spotted a squatting rabbit sitting tight in front of some cows. "kye" was slipped and was unlucky not to take it out of its seat and the the chase was on, the rabbit was jinking side to side back and fourth and kye was struggling to pick up until he put together a nice accurate strike and lifted the rabbit up. so thats a rabbit and an hare in the bag now. i decided to head back as there wasnt much out. further on i had a 1 or 2 slips on rabbits sat near the hedge line which just darted for cover before he got there. the night ended with young "kye" retrieving his first fox single handed which i was over the moon about. "kye" is doing very well for 12 month old as he has accounted for a good ammount of game already. heres a pic of "kye" with his well deserved catches. atb N.H fair play nice dog all the best.
