lurch41 0
How's it going lads. I have a ten month old whippet and hound bitch and have just recently introduced her to lamping I had her out a couple of nights just watching then i gave her a couple of slips she caught a few of them but to my amazement she retrieved srtraight back to hand alive ,the problem is now that I brought her out last night just to give her two slips but i brought her home after the first one because when she caught the rabbit she ran off with it and stood looking back up at me and eventually came back without the rabbit . I am open to suggestions on how to stop her doing that . Quote Link to post
sh 08 17
Firstly did you have another dog out with you, When training a pup i always take the pup on its own until we get the retrieving right. Secondly Was the rabbit last night a long run, some lurchers i have seen (mine included) will only come within 14 foot on some long runs. Thirdly is the dog ready? This is only to help you im not having a go Quote Link to post

Great catch but unfortunately bad retrieve. I think i am expecting too much too young I would say she is only 60% ready. What is really confusing me is that she was retrieving back to hand but has stopped. Good questions Thanks Quote Link to post

I walked away and stood at the gate where we entered the field and i had a little hand torch so i turned it on so that she knew where i was .When she had caught the rabbit she came back towards me and then circled away from me . She was 110% at retrieving but has suddenly stopped . Quote Link to post
