paintinghelen 0 Posted August 22, 2009 Report Share Posted August 22, 2009 Hi everyone, I'm posting in the hope that anyone might be able to tell me whether or not I will ever get a reliable recall out in open spaces with lurchers that have been allowed free will to chase whatever they wanted? stealthy1 3,964 Posted August 22, 2009 Report Share Posted August 22, 2009 Its not impossible, I've seen rescues at that age that have learned to come when called, but its time consuming, and a great amount of patience is needed, and do it one to one, and not take two dogs out at a time, or one will inspire the other to take the piss, I had a aqaintances lurcher out with me for a while before he sold it, and I nearly got the recall sorted, and it was as stubborn as they come, what I did was take it to an open field with a dead rabbit, cob the rabbit out into the field, not far, about 20ft, and keep at it a for a hours a day, but as soon as it get bored, leave it until the next day, then do the same with the other dog, a rabbit skin dummy would be better, just make sure you take your dog some were quiet, because the first time I let this peticular dog off the lead and threw the rabbit, it high tailed it into the middle of the field, when I caught up with it I wanted to kill it Patience and practice and you should get good results, good luck Quote Link to post Share on other sites

OK Thanks everyone - am now off to large field with training line and lots of treats but not sure about how to get hold of a rabbit skin lure unless I just pick up a bit of road kill!
