My home made squirrel trap designs

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just thought that id post the designs of my squirrel traps that i have been making today. I have had success with these designs in the past so dont really differ from them much. Part of my shoot is over run with tree rats and with the game keeper having his pheasants pend i though that i would give him a helping hand by putting out some traps and hopefully stopping some of the tree rats stealing the pheasant grain. I also intend to take up my GunPower Storm and nail some when the leaves start to clear off the trees.

Ive taken photos of the trigger mech i have designed. I always use fishing line but for the photo to show up better ive used wire. The wire would normally be connected to the trigger at one end and the see saw board at the other end. Once the squirrel stands on the see saw the wire is pulled down setting off the trigger on the door.

While just finishing the traps this evening and just has it was starting to get dark a black and white hoolagan dropped in on the garden to steal from my bird table. Luckily the Storm was not to far away, so thats one magie that wont be stealing in the future.

If anyone else has any good squirrel trap designs, or any home made vermin traps id love to see them posted.

Lets see who has the best home made traps on this site, and lets share the experience.

Regards

Zini.

I like your 'T' shaped one particularly. I'm guessing that the 'push past' door is long enough and at a shallow enough angle that they are stood on it while they're trying to open it.

The wooden catch is good too - nothing revolutionary but looks neat and effective.

'WIFE' on here is one for experimenting making squirrel cages from different materials and designs.

have a look at this topic too http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=49799
