What are the benefits from breeding from a 12 month old dog?

hi mushray. " most of them clowns" have more or less experiance in the dog world. whether as trainers/breeders or simple dog owners.

us clowns( whom i consider myself one or more of the above) will add our opinions to posts put up to try and advise people of the right way to go on matters they cannot solve themselves.if they could they would not ask for advice on such a site( i am aware of the fact that the original post did not ask for advice but the service of a free stud dog).

it seems the general consensus of opinion is NOT to breed from the dog for various reasons.

you are quite right to suggest that it is HIS dog and he may breed from it as he pleases.if he finds a suitable bitch, i doubt this will be the case on this site. simply too many clowns.

do not be surprised if you find youself facing a clown who is not impressed at finding out that his "working pup" (if so advertised) is sired by a defective and non working dog,no matter how good the bitch may be.

if the pup develops a similar problem you may find yourself in trouble( as it is now widely known that you are aware of possible consequences of breeding)

the ground you are on is morally unsafe to say the least.

just the opinion of a clown.

sure there breeding of undershot dogs none stop, had a good earth dog with 1 nuck and his pups were ok,and there pups were just as good, never breed of a 12 month old dog myself, but the way your putting to the man is that his dog is dirt because of haveing 1 nuck and never to breed of it,you never no someone might want a mateing of his dog for free

But what on earth is the point of using a dog that has only one testicle - a fault that is known to have a hereditary element? You're risking producing more pups with the same fault. And this is a serious fault, it has health implications - there is a high risk of the retained testicle becoming cancerous, so it should be removed. Do you want to produce pups that could need to have an operation? There isn't exactly a shortage of decent Border dogs about.

check the standard for the breed. ask a vet whether hereditory or not.

i am saying I would not breed from this dog, or indeed my parson who also has one in the groin.

ethicly the only reasonable choice.

it must not mean that the pups have the same problem but the risk is higher.

i am not telling him not too but saying that it is not what the breed needs( proven dog or not) and i know that this problem would exclude him from breeding if he were a teckel, jagdterrier, labrador, pointer or any of the german working breeds for that matter.

you may and i'm sure given the opportunity will not heed any advice given/offered.

as for having bred from such a dog, i can only say i see no need.hopefully the buyers were happy with the pups( good healthy working pups from good healthy working parents) who i hope will not pass any problems into the next generation. this is afterall not just about ONE litter, but the six( frrom however many pups were in the litter) which follow.

maintain the breed as it should be.

If your dog has a retained testicle it has an inherited genetic condition and regardless of how good looking, well bred, fantastic working or showing it may be it should NOT be bred from! You are condemning the next generation to the same genetic problem! If that testicle remains retained you should get it removed as it may well go cancerous and if strangulated can kill your dog.

no you bloody would not!

i have worked and bred terriers and teckel in germany on fox, badger, boar and deer. the only show i have been to was for an assessment of my teckel for his paperwork.

the breeding standard is important as a goal of the club. otherwise we would have border at 24 inch and 15 kg.

IF THE MAIN REASON TO BREED FROM THIS DOG WAS TO MAKE MONEY THEN I WOULD HAVE ASKED A FEE TO BREED FROM HIM.

I SAID IT WAS FREE BUT AFTER IT WAS A SACK OF MEAL OR TREATS ETC.

SO I DISAGREE WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS ONLY GOING TO BREED HIM TO MAKE MONEY.

:doh: Christ!!!! It's not about the dogs fecking nut, or the lack of it, it's about breeding from a 12 month old animal that has seen little or no work, that is the point, simples!!!!! :censored::censored::censored:

Dawn B also, I beg to differ, the working Border Terrier, as a whole, is in dire straits, the thred on 'em on here is proof of that, I wouldn't care if it had one ollie, is overshot, had a stump tail or pissed backwards, if it went to ground, stayed to ground and could be called a genuine working Border Terrier, i'd breed from it, without a single doubt.

All other minor 'faults' could be then bred out but working ability, once gone can never, ever be replaced.... and thats why Border Terriers as a genuine earth dog are as rare as rocking horse shite!!!

some breeds take longer than others for the nuts to descend........be careful when taking a pup for its first jabs as the vet if they cant find both will tell you all about this condition and the dangers (which are real as Dawn states above) and try and get the mutts nuts off before he has had chance to let them descend........My dog has both proudly swinging in his sacks! however on his first visit to teh vets one wasn't quiet there....vet starts going on about all teh above (this is a small 8 week old puppy) and saying I will have to book him in for castration! I think the vet saw it as an opportunity to make some extra ££££££££££££££££ and when i said but he is only 8 weeks old? the vet realised i was questioning him and said "yes he is young....he still has time for it to descend!" (dont always blindly believe the vet!)

Anyway i left it and a week after his second jab it finally descended correctly by itself............I dont know how quick they should drop but have heard that different dog breeds/types take different amounts of time.....my dog took about 10-11 weeks for it to descend........I think that you should say it they aren't there by about 6 months then it needs doing .for the dogs health and to prevent it passing it on and causing more dogs to have the problem!

Working ability is not the be all and end all...............it is the primary function of a working dog but we must also try and breed dogs as healthy and long living as possible ..................so a dog at 1 year old with 1 nut shouldn't be bred from anyway

Hi THL I have a border terrier dog 12 months old he is red in colour with no papers.

he is FREE to use but he has a small problem only one testicle has dropped so its really a test to see if he will produce.

I have heard of other dogs being able to produce with one testicle dropped.

will be free for the 1st couple of mating's but after that a bag off meal / treats or small donation would be accepted for his services.

Any other breeds welcome.
