Neal 1,854
Hi Jigsaw, I'm trying to think outside the box here and I'm probably coming from completely the wrong direction but...some of the behaviour sounds similar to my middle bitch (oddly enough a kelpie; as you know). Whenever I take her to the corner shop for the paper she gets slower and slower as we approach the shop for the last 20 yards or so and it ends up with me almost dragging her along. On one occasion I approached the shop from a different direction after leaving my local wood and hadn't put the dogs back on the leads. When I got to the shop there was no sign of her and I eventually found her 100yards away laying down. Neither of the other two do it at all. In her case I thinks it's because she's overly sensitive and she's one of those dogs which will spend 99.9% of the time doing the right thing but every time I ask her to do something specific she assumes I'm saying, "what you were doing was wrong so I'm asking you to do this instead." As a result, unless I'm being very placid and calm and laidback, she sees every request as a reprimand ie (in the case of the newsagents) she thinks, "he's going to ask me to lay down so I must've done something wrong, oh woe is me!" I know it can be hard but sometimes you've got to act really happy when you feel like screaming. Quote Link to post

jigsaw 11,863
well ive stuck to her this long im going to give her the season to see how she performs.if she can course and catch then i'll probably be satisfied and she may rectify her little quirkes.thanks again for your views, very interesting reading.I have to say its the first running dog ive ever had an isue with, usually I just gel with them so chalkie i do see your point.neal i am the kind of owner that thinks you gota do it my way or no way, where the dog is concened,so maybe its the saluki independence thats happening here.im going to just put up with it for the moment and hopefully the bitch and I will meet in the middle somewhere, with a few good hare rabbits and what not thrown in for good luck.the thing is she has no problm travelling, she just doesnt want to get in to the bloody van am I being too picky or what? Neal 1,854
No you're not being too picky. Everybody has different standards and only you know what you will or won't accept. Which reminds me: how did you get hold of that photo of my wife for your avatar! Quote Link to post
