swamper 11
the little bitch im useing at the minute is 3/4 whippet X 1/4 airedale and the nose on this dog is fantastic but is this nose off the airedale or is she just a one off or are thay know for it? as iv never had any experience of them the dog actually works better at bushing than as a running dog ta Edited August 8, 2006 by swamper Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
The Airedale is a hound cross from way back when so there's no reason it shouldn't have a decent nose. There's plenty of septics use them for treeing bears and cats so they must be able to trail hunt. Quote Link to post
Nipper 0
The nose comes from the whippet. Quote Link to post

Nipper 0
1/4 airedale (non hunting dog bred for the ring for decades) contributes all the nose.........)) Give the whippet some credit!! Quote Link to post
Guest ADAM AND HIS DOGS
raises a good question this thread. how much if any of the basic traits required for work are retained in breeds bastardised by the kennel club. one examolei could give is a kerry blue terrier kc reg from show lines got a bit crazy was passed on to a friend that worked dogs and done what kerry blues where bred for. a fluke but surely some instints must remain.
