Taking black rabbits

Recommended Posts

I have taken all sorts of colours of rabbits in the past but spoke to another ferreter and he says if he catches a black rabbit he will always let it go, cause of superstition, he said two people he knows took one and two bad things happened, one creashed his car next day and the other lost a finger the next week, i said it was just coinsedence (cant spell) but he said no no no, black rabbits go back free any body else heard of this

The old boys from the village who used to take me long netting and ferreting when i was a child always used to let any black rabbits free and would never knowingly kill one. It supposedly brought bad luck. I am not superstitious and a rabbit is a rabbit to me......... But Snareman once told be a tale about a black rabbit that gave me something to ponder. ;)

I think a lot of it stems from the idea that 'keepers used to turn out coloured rabbits on to their ground to see if poachers were operating.

Personally I catch a good number of black rabbits each season and as yet haven't lost any fingers or crashed any cars on the way back from ferreting.
