Mr_Logic 5
243 varmint rounds start at 55 and work up to about grains. In factory loaded, Remington do a 75 grain which makes large holes in foxes, Norma loads the 58gr Vmax which also works, and Federal loads 55 and 70 grain Noslers. If you're reloading, 55 or 70 Nosler would be my choice. I use the 70 Nosler and it works very well. Quote Link to post

Thanks for that, I will be looking at factory rounds Initially, just wondering If my 1 In 10 twist rate would be suitable for a lighter head......Without getting too technical Quote Link to post

My old RWS had a 1:10 as well, and that shot the 58gr to 1/2" @ 100y. Quote Link to post

In my 1in12 58gr V-max produce one hole groups at 100 yards, 70 grain produce just under and inch and in comparison 100 grain produce 1.3"+. John Quote Link to post

HUnter_zero 58
Hi John, mines a 1 In 10, any good? Sparko A 1 in 10 will handle 70 grainers very well indeed. (sorry brain dead, my 1 in 12 prohunter is suited to 58 grain V-max) your 1 in 10 would be better suited to a slightly heavier V-max. John Edited August 22, 2009 by HUnter_zero Quote Link to post
Spangle 0
Another vote for the 58grn V-Max, however I have been quite successful of late with 68grn berger Match Grade. At present though I have rebarrelled my .243 to an Ackley and I'm using 70grn Noslers to fireform my cases, they are a great bullet. Quote Link to post
