wag 13
hi all , with the season being so close, i was wondering if any of you boys have seen much wildfowl about in your area , also do you think that wildfowl has had a good breeding season this year .. i will start, i'm on the east coast around the wash , we have seen very few young mallard so far, but now all the fen drains are being dredged , i would say we will start to see more now ...i have been down the local marshes and seen the first lot of teal come in , in the last few days ... also i have seen some wigeon about but not many as i have seen the last few years , we dont see many tufty but this year with a big reserve being built near us there is a lot of them about around us , i have seen more shovler than ever , i also put that down to the new reserve being built in our area, also plenty of greylag and silly amounts of canada geese .. so thats it for my area , so if any of you boys wish to add to this thread please feel free to do so, this is not a survey or a poll its just something to let other fowlers around the country know what kind of breeding season its been and to see if there has been big influx of migratory wildfowl in other parts of the country ...... claybusers al 9
i'm in east lothian scotland the river tyne and tyningham bay are my boundary its a bit early yet for the wigeon theres a few mallard about and some teal but not as many as last year the resident geese are still here and are sitting on the stubble. but this year i have a resident swan so i guess this is pushing things off its very warm still but not as wet as last year so all the splash's i get are very dry. bobndog 0
It's been quiet around here, (NE Essex) but it has picked up in the past week. Plenty of mallard and teal. Wigeon starting to show over the last couple of days. No more geese on the move than usual, and that's not many! 9 greys and a dozen or so Canada's in the immediate area. Guest john5
just the usual round here , a few teal and mallard mostly the residents , i was out on the river near you last week wag (upstream) and seen three broods of mallard , the youngest was only about a week old , plenty of geese about though could be another pi$$ poor season for ducks
SportingShooter 0
Thirteen Mallard lifted off one of my flightponds this week, was a bit surprised to see Mallard there so early, they normally arrive after the Teal. Yet I haven't seen any Teal yet. There are a few Greys and Canadas knocking about the marsh.

v-max 2
To be honest i havent been looking but have heard the mallard on the river near me & there is a few going about mallard/teal. We have some canada geese in but they wont hang round much once the shooting starts & im out in the morning tomorow for the 1st cant wait. Dont think the duck have done to bad this year breeding & expecting a few second brood stuff maybe so might still be early yet for them. welshboy454 3
Well that was it- extremely disappointing for mallard and teal. Been on the marsh again this morning -only saw one mallard. Geese were calling in the distance but that was it. 3 years ago the first shot would put off 200 mallard so something is different this year. How are others doing ? tom1cameron 1
plenty local Mallard on the lower humber...all still in moult.....difficult to decoy on this new patch of large water I am hunting. A few local teal as well. No migrants seen. Fowsands on GP's got three yesterday while waiting for high tide.....then I could not hit a barn door with a banjo if I tried. A mix of my poor shooting..strong gusts and lots of sods law..like my mate being in the decoys when 20 mallard pitched in....meant I got zero duck for 9 shots (3*3). The challenge is on then...back out there in early October on next big tides.
