THEY WILL KEEP DOING SH1T LIKE THIS UNTIL THERE IS A CIVIL WAR IN GB??????? THEY ALLOW FOREIGN MURDERERS FREEDOM YET SENTENCE A FRAIL OLD WHITE MAN (Ronnie) FOR KNOCKING A BLOKE ON THE HEAD 40 YEARS AGO AS SOON AS HE LANDS YES HE WAS FREED BUT HE HAD TO REMAIN OUT OF THE COUNTRY OF HIS BIRTH FOR THE MAJORITY OF HIS LIFE. Agree with the sentiments mate, but this one lies at the foot of the Scottish government, not ours. Useless as our government is, I couldn't have seen them releasing this convicted murderer, especially with the American government requesting that he not be released. This all stinks of political posturing on the side of the Scottish parliament. A bold statement to the world, (the rest of the UK & America especially) that Scotland is a big boy, it can make big decisions no matter what anybody else says or does. Shame that all the replies I've read on here and elsewhere from ordinary Scottish folk, seem to be against the idea.

Totaly agree I know this is at the scottish parliments feet and that they are flexing some very rusty muscles but surely they cannot think that this shows the world that they are top players. All this has done, is to show the world how inept the devolved goverment is at doing the right thing..... Compassion my arse the murdering fuuck has gone home to a hero's welcome do you think his last days are gonna be spent in guilt. No, not like they pain felt by the families of all the victims, unfortunately they will feel this pain everyday until their final minute.. Rant over............. for now
poacher3161 1,766
I have yet to try and understand scottish law and due to a murder trial up their in the near future that will be involving my family in a way.The authoritys have said that murderers do serve a longer sentance in scottish prisons than murderers in english prisons im starting to think this is a load of b---ox now with recent events
fin and fur 2
This whole event makes a mockery of the Judicial system, and not just in Scotland either as the trial was originally held in Europe.. There has always been some doubt as to whether this man was indeed responsible for the Lockerbie disaster, hence his continual appeal of innocence. Now it appears that in dropping his appeal (and therefore accepting that he is guilty of a crime that he may very well not have comitted) he has speeded up the process of his release on compassionate grounds in order to die with his family. It almost seems as if a deal has been done, take the wrap, all the doubters go away, the event gets wrapped up and you get to spend your dying days with your family. Personally i feel that all the victims of Lockerbie have been short changed when it comes to seeing justice being done, as inspite of the appeal being dropped we will never really know who was responsible for this terrible crime. Has an innocent man been jailed all these years ? or has a guilty man just walked ?, we will never know. And thats the s*it part about this whole sad affair.

gnasher16 30,274
I have nothing against the scots myself and have several scottish friends so i mean no offence....but in this instance the scottish goverment has been pathetically weak....maybe its a good example of the weak society we live in today....but i hope the world doesnt see this as a " british decision "....... Its worth remembering that this scumbag is seen as a hero in his home country......how many people get to die a national hero ?......not many.... f**k all this " he might not have been guilty "....he WAS guilty in a court of law,if he had not been guilty then it should have been taken up with the court of appeals at the time......not whingeing about it later on when the mans on his death bed.........he was lucky he got to live at all.....those poor mourners of loved ones he killed now have to live with the fact that the man who killed their loved ones will die at home as a national hero !.....im gobsmacked. True enough he was found guilty in a court of law, but there seems some doubt as to the body of evidence that was brought before the court and therefore some doubt as to the mans guilt. With regard to taking things up with the court of appeal thats exactly what he did, he was still appealing his innocence upto the time of his release and only stopped doing so in order to gain a release on grounds of compassion whilst he still had some life left in him. Personally i feel that the whole trial has raised too many doubts and has left the families of the Lockerbie victims in a permenant state of limbo as they doubtless feel shortchanged by the judicial system and will never really know who took the lives of their loved ones, this was a horrible crime and i find it offensive that the laws which are supposed to see people held up to account for their crimes seem to have failed us all, but the victims in particular. The need for someone to blame may very well have resulted in this mans conviction, or could equally have resulted in him being offered up as an innocent scapegoat, sadly we will now never know the truth. Isn't it interesting to see how the UK will now benefit from forthcoming trade with Libya following the release, the proposed visit (now cancelled due to public opinion) by the Duke of York seems to suggest that the government is keen to establish stronger trade with Libya at the price of true justice for its own citizens. Look at the other post on this subject (back a page or two) the fact that an appeal was coming up, is the very reason they let him go. compassionate grounds my ass, is it just coincidence that the duke of pork er sorry, york, and the odious mandelson have been out there sucking up to mad dog Gadaffi ?? This was a done deal, and was the only reason they let Biggsy out.
