Novices trying to 'have a go' are becoming more common, and are taking the food from the mouths of professionals. Quote Link to post

Matt 160
c'mon guys give him a break he's just trying to earn a honest buck thats all? you all started somewhere! An 'honest buck'? Hmmm, claiming to be something he isn't (a pest controller) doesn't sound very honest to me. I started with training courses, and then six months shadowing someone who knew what they were doing..... This isn't a few rats in a corner of a shoot, or a farm, it's someone's home and garden. Their health and safety is at risk all the time there is an infestation, and a novice is asking for advice about how to deal with it. Most local authorities offer free or subsidised services to householders who have rat infestations, which just shows how serious the issue can become. 'Newbies' and novices have always been ten a penny, but lately it has got worse. You cannot get insurance without training and qualification, and you shouldn't be able to buy professional use products without being able to prove that you are 'suitably trained'. If you are being paid to clear rats, your 'free' insurance from shooting organisations will be null and void. Have an accident, poison a domestic pet, act in any way negligently and you will face severe financial penalties. You should also have written risk assessments for any works carried out, or you will also be in breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (a domestic job becomes your workplace the second you agree to carry out works for 'reward' of any sort). All in all, I refer you to my original post. Call in a Professional! Quote Link to post

glass22 0
Why do so many people on here have such a stick up there ass? if your bussiness is failing so badly, get off your ass and do some marketing, don't blame anyone else. -- Good luck Rabid Dog, not that u'll need it since this pest control stuff really isn't that difficult. When I came here I was told 1. Pay someone to do my moles. 2. Get someone off here to do my rabbits. 3. Pay someone to get rid of my rats. 4. Pay to get rid of my mice. Now all the moles, 99% of the rabbits and all the rat/mice activity has gone. All done myself without paying a penny, and I really don't get why people on here have to make out like it's rocket science to put some bait on a £2 mouse trap and leave it for a few hours, or to put a tunnel trap in the ground and catch a mole. I had rats under one of my sheds, I just put a bait box with posion down, left it a couple of weeks(and it does take awhile for them to get confident enough to take it). No more rat problem. It might be worth putting a few regular traps baited in the shed, since they're proberly getting in there, also after a week or so, some expanding foam can fill in any holes they were getting through. Oviousely be careful with any posion around any domestic animals, and check regularly to get any posioned rats, but they'll proberly die in their holes anyway.
