again who said what when and to who , how was it interprited by plummer how much artistic licence did he add etc

the book is of interest to any one who keeps fells whether you take as gosspel what is written is another matter,

i have in my possestion a interview with bill brightmore with photos that have never been printed it makes good reading, plummer interviewed bill too but wrote the book as a history of the fell terrier , i think he did a half decent job, but left a few out , there are many untold stories how this type came about fact and fiction but all interesting, at the end of the day the old fellas dug to and bred working terriers a type they called the fell , black, blackntan, red, and wishy washy as gm calls em blue ones , crossbreds them all

I read somewhere that Plummer interviewed Bill Brightmore but was disgusted when his dogs hunted up whilst put and ignored his recall so Plummer left him out of the book.......................

I think i know where Bill would tell him to stick his book if he supposedly!!! said that.

Heard the same story Simoman, from what I can gather Brightmore should have been in the book for his input into the 'black' terriers...

Bill did turn plummer down & he was far from polite about it . I know this for a fact , because it was at a show when he was approached & Bill had been taken to the show by my dad who was stood next to him when Bill told him what to do . this was prior to this book been wrote .

the best book on terrierwork in our time without a doubt . his training and entering the jack russell terrier is also worth a read and would be a good book for young terrierfolk to read

Very true C.S. Should be read by every budding terrierman-it cuts through a lot of b ulls**t and applies to any working terrier not just russells.

A lot has been said of Plummer, and I think he did end up believing his own propaganda.

I met him a few times, depending on what day you caught him on, you got a different bloke.

One time I had a chat with him, he was polite and glad to chat to us (then) young lads.

On other occasions he was an egotistical arsehole.

However.

The Fell Terrier book is in my eyes a masterpiece, and a seminal piece of work.

Never again will such a book be written.

:clapper: Bill told me himself what he said to Plummer, dead right Chilli, he wasn't too polite about it and Bill was never a man to mince his words! ;)

Prior to the Fell Terrier being written, many (even the most unlikely) involved with dogs, had Plummers 'ear marked' and would tell him in no uncertain terms what they thought of him and from a few who did alow him 'in', they, no matter how hard they tried would eventually get 'rubbed up the wrong way' and fall out with him. The books still goood though!!! :D

EP, I'd have a think on how much you want for it based on how much it's actually worth, with an original jacket. :hmm:

I'll bet you'll get plenty of interest and do your homework, as somebody else will
