my nephew first rabbit

Recommended Posts

So i took my nephew out yesterday, he has never shot before so i said i would show him the ropes, after letting him smash a target to check nether of us were going to get killed, we went out to spot a rabbit or two he got the hang of creeping around "roling" his feet instead of plonking them down like harry enfield's "kevin" and was soon tuned in to what was going on.

first field we get into and there is about 15 rabbits showing. so we're in with a chance if he can hit one! so i put one in the barrel for him and slipped on the safety, got him in behind the gun, he located the rabbit shockingly fast and told me he had it in the cross hair, so i gave him the nod, he was a bit nervous, panting a bit starting to sweat , the adrenaline was starting to get to him! bet we can all remember our first rabbit eh!

he eased off the safety remembered to hold his breath (although not on the third breath like i told him but hey never mind) and squeezed the trigger gently. THHHHWACK! and down it went! 65 yards! off a gate post! after make sure the gun was safe etc and all the usual stuff you do with a newbie i shook his hand and congratulated him on offically being a hunter.

I'ave never seen the lad so happy!

he has already been on gun trader checking out he sir rifles for his xmas present!

well done dylan,. hope we have many more outings together.

nice shooting! may i ask what rifle it is?

of course mate, a CZ452 .22LR SAK Mod, Harris Bi-pod, Rimfiremagic trigger kit, running winchester ammo.

I worked out the basics other than ammo...I was curious about the scope???

:icon_redface: haha

AGS 3-9 x 40 illuminated from sprtsman gun centre...i think its actually a air rifle scope but i love it! you have 2 focusing points one on the rear and a yardage on the front, which is brilliant for me, as i have something called Keratoconus in my eyes (they are rugby ball shaped in stead of spherical) which means i have problems focusing so having an adjustable scope (that doesnt effect the zero) is essential for me really.

just not sure what i am going to do when i need a much better scope to go on my stalking rifle once i can afford one??

when using my mates sauer 202 he has a S&B scope but if its close shot i really struggle so i am going to have to find something to help me out i think, but thats in the future so i'll worry about it then.

Good going - glad he had fun, looks happy enough that he may have got the shooting bug - which is good, more the merrier in this day and age. At 29 I really shouldn't be the young 'un still for most shooting activities!

i know what you mean mate! i just turned 28 last week, and i only know one other guy that stalks that is younger than me!
