I rate the 5 for many uses...but I struggle to understand any circumstances where a 7.5 28 would be better that a 32, 5 on rabbits! Quote Link to post

andyf 144
hello just asking what shot size would everyone use in a shotgun{12g}to shoot rabbits just asked cause cause last nite found 7.5 shot 28 grams was killing them alot better than 5 shot 32 grams .just ask cause im new to the sport.cheers My guess is that your shotgun is fairly new and consequently probably built to shoot 28gr (small shot) clay loads, most new shotguns are, and primarily used for the clay shooting disciplines, therefore your gun patterns well with Plasi Wad 28gr cartridges, and as a result you will score better when using the 'proper' ammo. I shoot two different 1970's vintage fixed choke Winchesters, one is a 27 1/2" O/U Skeet gun and the other a 28" S/S Model 23, both of these shoot best with 32gr fibre Wad no 5's, and do not like the high velocity 28gr shells at all because they were designed to use fibre wads. If I use 28gr PlasiWads I either miss, get a cloud of feathers, or too many runners. I use my guns for game and rough/duck shooting and get excellent clean kills on Pheasant and Pigeon providing I use 5 or 6 shot and no smaller. The only down side to your situation is that your rabbits will contain more and smaller pellets. AF Quote Link to post

AF I have an old side by side spanishgun and favour 5's 32grams......never thought of the modern guns being more designed for clays....interesting thought! and probably right Quote Link to post

I use 6@ 30 gr but if its a hard winter 5 @32gr because the bunnys fur can absorb more shock as its thicker for the cold weather. ATB. Edited August 27, 2009 by hily Quote Link to post
Tobias 0
I prefer 5 - 6 32gm for rabbits and pigeons seems to work for me and ive even had the odd fox with 6 shot at about 20yrd face on in my 12bore Miruko o/u. Quote Link to post
Daveo 61
36 grams of S.G only kidding. I have shot (and killed) rabbits with every thing from no.8 to no.4. They all do the job. Quote Link to post
