Is it too late to learn my lurcher to retrieve

Recommended Posts

I have had this lurcher about a year now and he was nearly 2 he took what seemed for ever to catch the first rabbit. The problem is when he catches he just holds the rabbit on the floor and puts his paw on it  and waits for me to get it. He doesnt get the fact I want him to bring it back to me he wont even chase a tennis ball when I throw it for him so what can I do?

Here is a pic of what I mean

is that dog a saluki collie cross from durham ( bowburn/spenny area) ? im sure ive seen it previous?

as for advice , you always can say go back to basics , but if basics were never installed , its going to be a tricky situation , take his fave thing , or fave treat with you on a walk out , local park or something , ive used all sorts from a tennis ball rapped with a doggy treat to a pair of socks , whatever method is used , always remember , PRAISE , plenty of PRAISE. always let your dog / pup know he/she is doing a good thing ...

ALL BEST
