Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Probably the last calling session of the rut,and what better than to spend it on someone elses ground Went down to Martins Wednesday and on to a piece of his ground near Keynsham,a cracking bit of ground with popular stands in blocks.Rides cut through makes for good stalking .Stalked up to a corn field ,careful not to bump the doe feeding in a gateway near us .Got into position and called .Martin was the other side of a hedge to me .The doe feeding near us came running in and only calmed down when her two kids appeared at her side .A very good buck trotted along a tramline at the wood edge but faded into the trees .A while into the calling saw another buck run from my right through the corn and into the woods on the same path as the other .Another doe appeared out in the corn with twins but took no notice of the call.I saw the back of another deer running along a tramline towards me ,head down ,and could see it was yet another buck .He stood to check out the doe and i shot him through the neck at 116 meters .Very pleased to end the rut with a good six .Thanks again Martin . Gimli 0
Good shooting. I wish I was allowed to shoot roe on my permission, but the landowner reckons he has too few. Means no shooting during the rut this year. Quote Link to post
