pure whippet x italian greyhound?

just came across some of these for sale on the net advertised as top class workers!

does anybody have any views on this particular cross or even have a dog crossed in this way!

Avoid! Italian greyhounds have brittle bones!

The Italian Greyhound is in the "Toy Dog " group here in the U.K. They can't even jump off the couch without breaking their legs !!! They have no use in the working dog world, as their breeders will tell you. To cross one with a Whippet just spoils two breeds !! On the Continent they are bred bigger, and some even chase rabbits..... but here..... as much use as a Yorkie or a King Charles Spaniel !

i have one and SHE is a fab little worker , she was the result of an accident litter of my own but ive paid the price via the net since , i would class myself as an experienced running dog person and feel able to comment with the truth , they are fragile , some lines arent but hell of a lot more are leg breaks waiting to happen!!!!!! it doesnt always work that the strength of the whippet will come through, quite the reverse in fact !!

 

think very carefully and choose your insurance wisely before thinking about having one , you will need at least £2000 in savings or insurance for a simple leg break , then there are other breed faults , patellas , poor dentation epilepsy and so on

 

i have a further 4 purebreds here and all bar 1 at 14yrs old are heavily insured !!! not to say they aint brilliant little dogs and the oldest sighthound in the world , but today , there is no place in the working world for an italian , little sods are as fast as hell though!!!!!!!! watch the neighbour cats too lol , they are raced on the continent as well as in usa but stronger bred and bigger than here tbh
