look up 406
Just been for walk with pup to local technology park and he has just caught his first rabbit @ 12 weeks old.Was out this morning and a mixy rabbit in middle of field he chased it like he does my pet one but when it got too far in front he stopped. And i went to same place tonight and as pulled up a mixy rabbit was there but it hopped in bush and bout 5yards away was another mixy rabbit which too went in bush but 20 yards in field was another mixy rabbit.I walked right onto it and he just sniffed it but as soon as it set off he chased it and caught it then dropped it when it squeeled then it got another few yards and he caught it again and rabbit gave up.i let him mouth it for a bit then took it off him and walked away but after i got so far he ran back for rabbit and carried it back near me by its back leg.I got a few pics and the retrieve on video as proof as i bet a few will doubt me.I am very pleased needless to say [/quote i.v don the same with my pup /1 of my older dogs had court a rabbit out in the field .it was still a live so i gave the 4 month old pup a go just to see what she made of it she picked it up and brourt it back i was very pleased aswell .atb mate Edited August 16, 2009 by look up Quote Link to post

langouroux 14
there is some hard ass :wankerzo4: on here, fair play to giving him a go mate. well done enjoy your time with your dog, don't go working him to hard at that age you end up breaking his heart. but fair play and well done. stormyboy 1,352
A pup should be learning rudimentary training at that age. Learning to retrieve the dead rabbit rather than watching it chew a live myxy one and hoping it will retrieve it. Bad habits are are easier to prevent than correct. Quote Link to post

chartpolski 24,404
A 12 week old pup is barely off the bitches tit !! What about basic training ? Any mongrel can take a mixi rabbit. I fear it will be another "8 month old, no fault of it's own" pup being passed on !! Come on mate, give the pup a chance !!! Some basic training, and start it next season....... Cheers. Mr Hunter 31
i give it basic training as well you prick.you must think im f*****g stupid or summit.House training was first as lived in barn, then lead train, then not to take my kids food out there hands and not to scrounge because i hate that.Luckily he is as good as gold and all basic training going well. this pup will go nowhere even if dont make the grade in field.my kids love it and it maybe ok running in my lurcher lure racing club. stormyboy 1,352
It will like but he was mouthing it a bit and @ one point give it a little shake but dont want it doing that obviously as gets older. i been trying to get him to retrieve a pair of socks in garden and he was having none of it but when he ran back for rabbit he carried it bout 50yards to about 5 yards away so i guess theres a start If you read your post you may realize that is what i am saying-"he gave it a little shake" "trying to get him to retrieve a pair of socks-he was having none of it". The dog should be retrieving any thing you ask before it sees live game. "so i guess theres a start"- yes Mr Hunter, its the start of bad habits that are hard to break. And before you start calling people pricks etc. why post stuff on here then get pissed at folks giving perfectly honest opinions? If you cant take it ,dont post. Quote Link to post
Irish Lurcher 1,013
At least you know he has a good nose on him, I got the same crap from this load when my bitch put up a hare during the summer two year ago and retireve it, but who gives a f**k what they think, it could happen to a preist.
