new lurcher x terriers

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a lurcher to keep, got 1 problem, my 4 terriers.( 2kenneld in the garden, 2 living in the house)

making another kennel for the lurch in the garden is no option, becouse I have to dig in my wife's flowers and herbs, and then she divorce or kill me.

So i was thinking to keep him (her) in the house with the 2 pat's, they are very social to other dogs, but dont no what they think of another housemate.

I need advice one 2 things: 1/how do I manage this for the best, to keep them al togheter in the house.

2/ who's helping me to a good lurcher with no bull blood( wel, maybe a litlle!). thinking about something between whip and grey, smooth haired. pup somewhere between 3 and 5 months.

The pats in the house: 1 bitch in whelp, 3 years old, very social (at the moment!) 1 stupid ugly dog, 1 year old (very very social, at the moment)

thanks and regards, kris

I have such story's too, sadly enough... But maybe a lurcher isn't so macho .. and when nobody's home he maybe can guard the garage???!!!, or one of the terriers?

I find it a difficult matter..

For some reason, dogs living in the house seem to tolerate each other better than those in kennels?

You very rarely hear of dogs fighting indoors (but now ive put that you just know someone will know someone :blink: )

Ive got 5 in the house, 3 terriers and 2 lurchers (& 2 cats) they have to get along fine alone when im at work.....its how you train and look after them helps to dictate how they will live together.

But maybe a lurcher isn't so macho
Make no mistake, a lurcher can/will kill a terrier if it latches onto it.

I keep two bull terriers and a lurcher in the house and together they've never had a problem. When I brought the black bull terrier home to house with the brindle male, there was ructions on, and they were a nightmare, as only bull terriers can be. Once they'd sorted out the pecking order though, there was never any bother again.

When I brought the lurcher puppy home, there wasn't the slightest bit of trouble and never has been. The only bother I had was with the wheaten cross but that was through high spirits in the field rather than anything at home. The wheaten cross was kenneled though.

Having said that, I've always had bother when I've brought terriers in as they always try to attack the bull terriers

I keep terriers for 25 years, and never had a fight in the house between them. But when kenneld up, they become very jealous to the terriers that run in the garden and house. Never had a fight while hunting, or before or after the hunt. always kennel them bitch/dog, but one time I had a bitch that killed a dog when I came home, why??

Its like you say, sometime's-for nothing- they fight and kill, always have to be careful when they are stressed, or when a rat or cat is passing behind the garden.

I guess it depends on the dogs themselves, they all have different personalities, some will tolerate each other and some won't. One of my terriers had a dislike of my son's lurcher, both dogs, and they had to be kenneled separately, but under supervision they were OK together, the same terrier is fine with my lurcher who is "the boss" :)

3 of mine sleep indoors, the rest outside, though they are all kenneled outside during the day, and they all come in on an evening for a few hours and for their morning toast :D
