runningdog01 3
hi just out of interest how many of you prefer to use a red (or other) filter on your lamp and what are the main advantages, ive always used a white beam as i feel you see a better run but have used a red filter recently and found rabbits eyes seem to show better and they dont seem as pressured to move on the red than on a straight white. sorry if im talking a load of just wondered what other people prefer and why cheers. sky08 3
i use a amber filter cause its diffrent from the white the things dont get up and go straight away and if your just lamping rabbits you dont have 2 take the filter off cause its still bright enough but if im chasing any thing bigger than a rabbit i take the filter off 2 see the run better Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
I use the red filter, and find it the best colour for me anyway, And i think rabbits sit a bit better when useing it, plus the dog will run down the red beam till its on its quarry then flip it to white, Plus its far more discreet than useing no filter...... What works for one wont work for others Atb T 7 Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I find filters dont work on some ground.... because lads use them all season if you use them in september they know the score.. I start on my permission with no filter then use it later on in the season. I also use amber.. If rabbits are lamped to death nothing will make them sit that bit longer Quote Link to post
bull101 35
we use red filters but guna try some other colors, only thing with the filters is that the distance of the beam had dramatically shortend Quote Link to post
runningdog01 3
thanks for the replies i see what you mean the beam is alot shorter on a filter, but if you can flip it up when the dog is on a run you can see it run without the filter cheers Quote Link to post
nighteyes 275
never been and wouldnt go lamping without a red filter find dogs pick the eye up alot better imo, slip in the red then white for the run then straight back on the red but each to there own Quote Link to post
fordie 8
I use a red filter when i see a rabbit then i turn to the white beam when the dog as seen the rabbit Quote Link to post
bull101 35
we tend to keep the filter on whilst the dog is persuing, (if on a small field) Quote Link to post
blackpack 70
start of the season i use normal beam (white) then go on to red or amber. Seems to work for me. When i lamp foxes always use red and at times if they are closer the dogs will catch on red. Quote Link to post
