hi all

first post,im currently applying for my fac ,have shot for years air rifles , shot guns but fancy a big boys toy ,im starting with a 17hmr but this is where my problem comes.I have had dozens of air rifles and moved form one to another over the years and although any good air rifle does the same job in the right hands, i change them for there (upgrades, looks, age) or even a minor scratch or blemish.(i like my toys sorry). After weeks reading from these pages and similar questions being asked. what gun to get.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it seems that alot shoot with cz and imsure do the same job as other guns featured but they do look boring.ive seen a gun called a marlin (all weather) or a ruger with a wood grain synthetic stock ,they look good but as i know nothing about 17 hmr i need some good advice on a good quality gun that look the bollocks.please note im not knocking the cz i might get a style they look good when pimped. cheers for any advice

As you say, the CZ's are a touch 'military' in their looks and build, they do shoot well though I hasten to add before being attacked by irate owners. Accuracy is not a problem with them. I would go for a Ruger if I were in your position, stylish, accurate, 'big gun' looks, and well made. Ring Viking Arms and ask for a catalogue.

Do you want a gun that looks good ???

or one that shoots good, all the pimping in the world doesnt make a good gun shoot well, try a few if you can before you decide on which one.

Ever been on a pheasant shoot where they all appear with the latest gear on smart as f**k, then you see them shooting, look out for the guy with the run of the mill gear on, he will be the one that shoots best, in other words its the same with the gun it dont need to look good as long as it shoots good.

in my opinion only... the brno cz is good value for money and shoots great rough and ready but built to last, or if you have a few extra ££££s then i would always go for a SAKO.

i didnt want to offend or slate anyones chosen gun thats not the issue why not have looks and accuracy, maybe that guy who has the bollocks of a gun has it because he shoots that well he already has attention on him the gun is for his personel choice and its his prize possesion .I know nothing about 17s but i dont want to buy some thing that in a month want to change .the dark black stock on the cz looks like my first starter air rifle ,i like the stocks on the guns i mentioned but am after the perfect all rounder ,i want to be the scuffy bloke with the awsome gun

To be honest there are very few "bad" guns out there...simple fact is CZ offer a pretty wide choice at competitive prices and they work.

Sako are ok but I don't consider them worth the extra, Anschutz make lovely and accurate guns but do you intend to try for the Olympics or shoot a few rabbit?

Marlin are little used in the UK although big in the US, Savage, Ruger, Remington, etc., etc all have good and bad points and all have loyal followere and those that hate them.

I run CZ Style in .22lr and HMR and CZ American in .22WMR. I am very happy with them all, but if I were to ever "upgrade"...I see no reason to ever do so for my requirements..it would be to an Anschutz.

hi

i shoot a marlin .22 lr for bunnies its a semi. the triggers heavy and wont load sub sonics very well. but with the highV's its accurate and cycles real well i can see past it now.

i dont think the marlins are as common here as some other makes but i find it reliable enough so long as its kept very clean

I shoot 2-3 three times a week with my CZ style.....

It gets thrown around in the land rover, treated like dirt, used in the wet, dry, snow, frost, sun...etc and by numerous different people, learners guest and shooting buddies, even the kids..It is virtually indestructable.

It still fires every round acurately and consistently..It is a working rifle, not one for the glass fronted cabinet.

But they same can be said for all my guns...tools....... not trophy's ;)

I could of afforded a more expensive rifle.........but didn't see the point, when it does everything so well.

I was once invited to ferret a patch that these three "london guys" had permission to shoot on, they gave me a tour of the land and asked if it was ok to bring the guns out, to pick up any I missed, well all three pulled enough armoury out of the motor to start a war with, shotguns and 17hmr, lots of shiney bits, and dressed as though they had just walked out of the shop

end of day, me 15 plus rabbits

them 0

they could'ent hit a barn door at ten paces :clapper:

"why not have looks and accuracy"

I agree

As you can see, when it comes to rifles

keep away from the marlin cz do the job but look crap and are long best iv seen is the anshult(sorry about the spelling) nice small gun looks good and shoots well

Lol the cz look the best by far. the only thing that might beat it would be an 17.hmr action with a accuracy international stock , but even that might be too much !!! :whistling:
