Guest rabbiter
I have been killing and feeding mutton for years and had no problems yet ,but fat is just as important in the make up of a dogs diet.I have got so many dogs that its alot of work to keep the tucker up to them ,untill a few weeks ago when I went to see the new local butcher and asked if I could pick over his "Bone bins " out the back so I now go on a tuesday as the truck comes wed and friday,I get enough to feed twenty dogs and best of all its free !!! FastDogz 155
Get it down em! I have to admit whole heartedly i dont feed raw my greys are fed on "dog food"..But your dogs on here look 100% better than mine.Along with every other dog ive seen on barf.Keep feeding the way you are lads! Smashing dogs. Would change to BARF mysen but my 2 eat like its going outta fashin so bones are NO..Unless someone can reccomend a type of bone that they cant bite chunks off and swallow em? Guest Ditch_Shitter
bones are NO..Unless someone can reccomend a type of bone that they cant bite chunks off and swallow em? Try this: See if you can get access to a big, commercial / catering style Mincer. One with a big heart. Fit the 'course as hell' plate in it. Run stuff like lambs ribs through that. along with what ever meat you want. Then mix that, along with your veg, bit of bread / meal, what ever, in a wet broth. Greyhounds are renouned bolters of their food. God knows why. They just are. But dogs can't suck and that makes it a right bitch for them to bolt such 'wet' food. So, that way, you'll be giving them all the goodness you care to, without them risking Bloat or choking themselves to death Quote Link to post

And also My male Grey has Colitis would the BARF help his digestion or make it worse?Im sick of Jelly, runny poops every so often but i dont want him crapping concrete at the same time  Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Colitis? Out of my juris diction I'm afraid, mate. Need a Greyhound Vet for that sort of talk. Ask at the local track. Mheanwhile, as just a lay man musing; I find it's not just bones that produce the chalk balls - nothing wrong with them anyway. Easy to pick up and do the dogs anal glands wonderous good. No, it's an 'excess' of bones. I've never personally fed " BARF ". Just managed my dogs diets as I've ever known. Tried to maintane a healthy balance. Maybe just ease your dogs onto a bonier diet and see for yourself? Bone in the diet has to be more natural than a spastic colon, surely? And, in us, we treat That with 'Fibre', don't we? I'd go for the gradual change over, if you split her regular food into three meals, then start changing one meal at a time, for example.....start giving her chicken wings for breakfast, then her regular food for lunch and tea. After a few days of that introduce a second meal, chicken wings for breakfast, maybe minced beef or tripe for lunch and her old food for tea.... (can you see where I'm going?) After a week to 10 days or so she'll be on a full barf diet and you can then knock it down to 2 meals a day. The thing to remember with barf is veriety and balance..... Mine generaly have mince beef and tripe in the morning, then every few days they get some liver/heart or kidney, cod liver oil, maybe some natural yogurt, raw egg (inc shell) and some pulped veg in with it, (in really hot weather I freeze blocks of fruit pulp for them to chew on and cool down, they love it) in the evening they get their meaty bones.... chicken/turkey carcases, turkey necks, lamb bones, whole trout, skinned rabbit, pork neck bones........ They love it and if you look at my pic below, I don't think "May" looks too bad on it either, Quote Link to post
