steveff1353 7
Hi all Got a Proofed Predator 8 Mod on my Tikka .223. My question is would it be safe to use on my .243? FEO said he'd add it on my license to use with both if it was possible to do so safely. (he said check with RFD) Thanks everyone Steve Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
It depends entirely on the range of calibres the Mod is able to be used on. Check with the manufacturer as a Mod with an undersized holes is going to trap the bullet and at the least destroy the mod, at worst rip the mod off the barrel causing unknown damage. dixyhmr 62
Dodgy one that. A .243 fires a wider bullet ( 6mm ) so you could end up doing serious damage to yourself or your gun. If its down for .22 cal then I wouldnt use it for .243 ! Like ss has said, it will say on the mod what calibre bore it has. If it was a .243 then it would be okay to use on both but not vice-versa. bobndog 0
Simple one to resolve without buying another moderator. The Predator 8 use inserts for various calibres, buy a 243 insert. See; http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm Quote Link to post
nod 285
if u do make sure u get the thread right cause might be diiferent thread sizes Quote Link to post
brno17 5
Simple one to resolve without buying another moderator. The Predator 8 use inserts for various calibres, buy a 243 insert. See; http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm as above buy the 243 baffle unit for it but you will also need the correct rear bushing for your 243 barrel unless your 223 is the same diameter Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
i believe you will also have to have the mod reproofed, due to the higher pressures, And the ranges may not allow you to use it, as above check for new baffles.... or you could do serious damage... it will have the calibre marked on it for which it was proofed originally......... so you need to look into a reproof to be 100 percent above board.... Deker 3,478
Now I may be getting mixed up but I think the early versions were up to .25...BUT DON'T QUOTE ME. Most certainly the more recent models have a much wider calibre range (More hole sizes) and therefore have a hole about as small as possible for each calibre......a NEW .223 now fitted to a .243 I suggest is not a good idea at all....BUT ..why don't you simply ask Andrew Banner at... http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm Quote Link to post
steveff1353 7
Thanks for the reply's guys, checked with manufacturer and its was confirmed i need a new baffle - £55. cheaper than a new mod. Thanks Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
The P8 with the right baffles certainly goes to .308. There is no requirement to proof a moderator, it is not considered a firearm or part of firearm by the Proof Acts. The proof houses stamp moderators when they go in attached to rifles. Therefore, a P8 could end up with any calibre stamp on it, just depends on which rifle it was attached to when it was submitted. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
i thought if moderator was not proofed you could not use it on any ranges in the uk, or am i wrong...? cheers Snap. Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
No worries mate It's quite possible some ranges have that rule, but they certainly don't at Bisley, which being my local range is the place where I shoot... Quote Link to post
