depends where you run mate and what the lands like,i.e obsticles like fences,hedges,dykes,,need good fast dog..whippetxgrew.salukixgrew,and big land more saluki in the make up..

why???? the dog cant decide where its going to run, can it..??but the owner can be jailbait,or does your dog tell you where it wants to run.

best height for a good daytime dog 25 to 27 but realy its all to do with balance a and agility not just height if u run on clay etc with big starts in winter u need a strong dog thta can run for 3 minutes or more at times or if your in wee parks u need a dog that can get up there stick to them and nail them on the fence of were ever, but localy season after season a small dog would tiol runnng on shitty land , especaily january on big wet winter wheat feilds were there saw a dog or two , land and type of runnng determings the type of dog and how much u are out

Just wondered what's the smallest height you lads have seen daytime dogs retrieving hares? single handed or doubled up. I know a lot of people say size doesn't really matter it's more to do with stamina, ability to stick to the hare e.g but surely it gets to the point somewhere when a dog is simply too small to carry out the task asked of it. i would have thought that a smaller dog has a smaller pace so it has to put more energy and effort into the retrieve but is this that much of a drawback that it cannot do it's job? i'd like to hear a few opinions please and maybe some storys from your own personal experiences.

You will have opened a can of worms with this one but to start you off. 24 to 26 inch!! Go bigger and they struggle on the turns go smaller and they cant handle the plough!!

There are exceptions of course and this is just a general rule. The best coursing man ever Fred Holmes favours big bitches on the Fens (26 inch) because in winter the hares lay on the ploughs and a 22 inch animal struggles!! saying that Dels old queenie was 21 and half inch and she murdered thm anywhere!!
