Rabbithunter 456
Anybody else notice an increase in the rabbit numbers this year? I certainly have, had a look the other night over some of my permission just to see what was about (wasnt runing dogs - ground still to hard) There was a banking and sitting on top of it within a 100yard stretch must have been at least 40 rabbits. I have never seen that many rabbits on there before. The population seems to have exploded, imagine its down to the hot summer??? Another bit which i longnet time to time, i shone the lamp and the field looked as if it moved. If the wind picks up tonight i shall be going to net it - and i only need 50 yards of net Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
Devvo your right, it depends on how hot it stays. With the past few weeks of heat, the overgrowth has been roasted so it ist as bad as other years. Soon as the weather cools down I'll be out. Could do with a few inches of rain first though, in case the shovel has to come out - would need a bloody pick axe at the minute Quote Link to post

Guest jdh488
The rabbit population in the Dumfries area has been hammered this season with Mixxy, went out with the rifle last week, out of 22 rabbits 15 were either blinded by Mixxy or absolutely covered in scabs and in very poor condition, took ages to get that many rabbits and definately a big decrease in numbers sitting about. COMPO 54
i start ferreting in mid august on the nice open warrens in the middle of paddocks obviously though while it is still warm take water for the ferrets, dont leave the box in the open and only go out for a few hours either first thing or late in the evening when it is at it's coolest In laws coming next weekend and the father in law likes wasting some of my shotgun cartridges firing warning shots at rabbits :11: so next weekend me , my lad and the father in law with a couple of ferrets and a shotty each Quote Link to post
