A happy new hunter

Recommended Posts

Hello there fellow hunters this is my first post so please be gentle, i'm a sensitive (6'4" 20+stone) flower!

A bit of background first, 25 years ago my stepdad took me out hunting, back in the day when walking down the street with a rifle on your back was perfectly acceptable and hunting rats and rabbits along the banks of the local river was considered a dutiful service to the local community...Whatever happened?

Anyway, one day, walking through Daisy Nook, he shot a bird out of a tree, a tiny little defenseless thing that posed no threat to anyone, he continued to despatch with another shot at point blank, just to be sure. At the tender age of ten, I felt absolutely disgusted that someone could do this to an animal for no apparent reason (please stick with the story, i'm not a guardian reading liberal) I put my gun away and didn't lay my hand on another rifle until one month ago.

Now living in semi rural North Wales and with a better understanding of life in general, i still stand by my opinion that killing an animal for no reason is abhorrent BUT vermin control and killing for food is more than acceptable.

So now, I am the proud owner of a Weihrauch HW99s with a Simmons Whitetail Classic scope and it, under my control has 6 rabbits and a couple of squirrels under it's belt.

I just wish i'd come to terms with my aversion to hunting so much sooner because i am having a whale of a time, the great outdoors, peace and solitude, it is just fantastic, i'm already saving up for a spangly new (second hand) HW100k, i've sampled lamping (now on the lookout for a lamp) i'm awaiting my introduction to ferreting, no doubt i'll be on the lookout for a ferret after that!

I've got permission on 300 acres overlooking Conwy Castle (massive thanks to L, you know who you are) and a few other small permissions, things are really looking up, this is just the way to lose weight, while getting out and about and doing something interesting that i've been looking for for ages.

I look forward to many a hunting adventure, Mat

I think he is sobbing over all that permission you have. You see phantoms permission is close to a mile long but only 2 feet wide and then there is a lamp post every 30 yards.
