It's just a matter of getting him used to it. Just persevere with it, try short walks at first, or even just around the garden. Don't try to lead him at first, just follow him about. He'll soon learn that having the lead on is a good thing because it means he'll be getting a walk.

If my pup's anything to go by I think it's perfectly normal for the pup to hate the lead at first ;) Similar to matenby's suggestion I put the lead on my pup and let it drag around behind them for a while, then when she got used to that I held the lead but just followed her around holding the lead, not pulling her. From there I started to use food treats while holding the lead to get her used to moving in the direction I wanted her to go, using the food treats less and less, she got the idea after a few days.

All pups seem to hate the lead at the start, but for some reason my new pup took to it straight away with no probs.I usually just do whats already been said put lead on and let the pup drag it then short walks.
