jigsaw 11,900
after reading a topic a while back I noticed a few comments on the above,I was just wondering how many on here are supersticious and wouldnt dig a fort.I was with a local lad for years and he refused point blank to enter one,we just dug the shit out of them but i have to say ive had my fair share of bad luck over the years, was it because of entering a terrier into a fort or just SHIT HAPPENS.Have you english lads got forts to dig in or is it an Irish thing.I must have dug in dozens of forts over the years, who else has dug these and who would refuse point blank to intefere in one and why? mushroom 13,646
They are rings of earth, stone, trees etc That are either natural or scars from ancient buildings, iron age places of worship, houses and such. Druids and celtic people believed they were the home of fairies. It is in these that the little fellows dressed in green are said to know the location of gold.......... What a load o b#llocks  Two mates were once in Eire and were warned by a local not to cross a certain field at night on their way home from the pub as :db: There be little people in there and strange things happen :db: Edited August 12, 2009 by mushroom

Guest Scuba1
The only thing about those ring forts is, you are going to be very unlucky trying to find a corner to pee in. ATB Michael Edited August 12, 2009 by Scuba1

border lad 1,047
a very true story, we were doing the Mullingar by-pass, in 2001/2 placing the wearing course on it, this is the Dublin end of the by-pass, and all the boys were saying when we come to do that particular section we will have big problems, due to the Fairy ring there, well I will never forget every thing was going well untill the afternoon, next thing the chip spreader, final drive goes, only 2 months old fitter comes and repairs, next thing the bitumen pot goes on fire it explodes, flames and smoke is belching all over the place, around two gas bottles, flames about 20feet in the air, I manage to smother the flames and get the gas bottles out of the way down the banking,, after all that we start laying again and the last load of asphalt was going through the paver, when I heard an almighty crack, this 10pm. I look under the paver and hear is the main flight chain hanging on the floor,, now these flight chains, are at least 200 tonne breaking strain, the paver is only 6 month old a betelli 670, by the time we finished that night with all of the problems was around midnight, and that my boys is the truth and that flight chain was the first I saw break on a paver in 45 years of asphalt paving, so it only happens in the ole country, were people believe in the wee people, ((((( straight a very true story,((((( so now lads when your out lamping and all of a sudden your light goes or battery goes dead for no reason your dog goes a miss, ((((( DARBY O GILL COULD BE ABOUT,
