inan 841
im sure for the SNITHFIELD will skin and cook it for that price. ive heared of SMITHFIELDS rough coated things suposed to be great little dogs. I do think £500 is a bit steep, good old hancock ony charges £250 lol Ah,but my line is tried and tested in the field,[well,a big garden]. You forgot to mention that they "will definitely EXCELL,.at EVERYTHING"... I have had one or two minor hiccups on that score, so have decided to"amend" the advert a few litters have proven to be less that excellent on Rabbit, hare,or fox, but all will take, mouse and mole single handed ,and most will take rat [doubled up]. stormyboy 1,352
Suffolk stumblers? Do they trip up the quarry!!?? sound a bit clumsy! Quote Link to post
inan 841
As abouve when does a line of lurchers you have bred become your own line? surley it takes years do you have to line breed for this to become your own, it's just something ive wondered about My family have been breeding Suffolk Stumblers for over 100years,they go back to the Sniffield cattle and droving dogs. Pups occcasionaly available.[£500],in the righthands, these will allways make the grade. Is it true that these canny curs will excell at Hedgehogs, er, in the right hands that is? Regards Warren That is correct,in the right hands of course, should a well known" seasoned dog man" like yourself be interested in investing in this unique blood line,I could probably make a small discount, and let a puppy go for cost ,say £450. I can be found at most big Game fairs and shows, and can be easily recognized, because I will be the only one wearing a wax jacket ,moleskin waistcoat and trousers and wellies in the summer. I like to think of myself as one of the last of the real old characters of the country sports world, others may have different names for me. Quote Link to post
inan 841
Suffolk stumblers? Do they trip up the quarry!!?? sound a bit clumsy! This actually refers to their singular method of catching their quarry, to the untrained eye ,they appear to "stumble ", over their prey, and inexperienced dog handlers have stated that they lack nose and only find game by accident. Nothing could be further from the truth, properly brought on ,"in the right hands",these dogs exhibit a cunning remarkable for its deception, they have been filmed walking past sitting rabbits and clapped hares ,apparently unaware they are there. This is the sagacity and stumbling instinct showing itself, the quarry is lulled into a false sense of security, and before it knows it, it has been stumbled upon! artful212 394
i thought that if u hav breed three generations ie.mother daughter and granddaughter that u could call it ur strain i mite b wrong tho Quote Link to post
bull101 35
getting quite drawn in with this thread, ............how many generations till you can actually call it your strain?..........because the dogs are always from another mans strain no matter how many generations (i think anyway).... may be im wrong? Guest sph1979
Im pretty sure if you line breed then you can call it your own strain but there again ive been known to be wrong Quote Link to post

bull101 35
9 generations and then it becomes its own breed why 9? Quote Link to post
rickyspringer 15
I think 5 generations and you have your own line, outcrossing doesn't mean you hve lost your line, 5 generations is enough in my eyes. I have really enjoyed reading through this thread and i look forwrd to more responses. RS Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
Assuming you are extremely happy with a dog(1) and bitch(2) unrelated you have and you want to creat a type(your own line) from them: line breed tightly if you breed sire (1) to a bitch (2) then breed (1) to daughter (3) and then breed (1) back into a bitch from this litter (4)(his daughter and grand daughter). the result will be pups (5) with 7/8ths of the original sires genes 1/8 of original bitch (7 parts (1) 1 part (2) ) Breed bitch (original) (2) to son (3) then breed (2) back into a dog from this litter (6) result being pups (7) with 7/8ths of original dams genes andd 1/8 of original sire (7 parts (2) 1 part (1) ). Breed the result of the sires line (5) with the dams line (7) and this will give you a new line/type which will contain half the original sire and half the original dams genes (same as first litter from original dam and sire) meaning they wont be inbred eventhough their parents were very tightly bred.. You will have to cull hard while breeding this tight... Edited to use numbers instead of letters. the letters came up as lads with sun glasses when posted. sorry in advance for anyone confused....
