mark01856 7
hi guys, just a quick topic to ask some advice. ive had my shotgun cert for a few weeks now, and am really loving it, hope i do not go off the air rifles. i am just wondering how silent can you make a shotgun with a silencer? and would it be a good idea to get a silenced .410 shotgun for use in barns for pigeons and rats? any advice would be much apreciated. Happy Hunting Mark p.s. cant wait for the 12th to get some geese. Edited August 10, 2009 by mark01856 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
A shotgun in a barn sounds like a good recipe for damage and loosing your permission to me! A .410 with a Moderator and subsonic cartridges is going to be quiet but effective. Although a subsonic shell will have about 2/3 of the power of a standard one so you will need to cut your range a fair bit. Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
 At least learn the respective seasons Mark. Quote Link to post
bobndog 0
If the barn has an asbestos roof, you are going to damage it with a 410, been there, done that. I would use a 9mm 'garden' gun. Oh, and check the date for the start of the rat shooting season........ Quote Link to post
gossy 3
shotgun in barn= bad idea!! stand outside the door and chip a stone onto the roof the pigeons will fly out and theres your chance. alot safer. as for rats youve already said youve got an air rifle so there you go.... alot cheaper to use. atb giossy Quote Link to post
mark01856 7
12TH OF SEPTEMBER!! and no i would never think of using a 12g shotgun in a barn, im not that stupid! i was just asking for some advice on .410 as i have had never used one or know much of them, hence why i was asking gossy-- yea i think it best to use the air rifle for the rats, probably even the pigeons. atb Mark Quote Link to post

Happy Hunting Mark p.s. cant wait for the 12th to get some geese. As above, can't wait for the 12th to get some geese. Now, we're in August, so don't shout your mouth off assuming that you mean September, we cannot read minds. 12TH OF SEPTEMBER!! and no i would never think of using a 12g shotgun in a barn, im not that stupid! i was just asking for some advice on .410 as i have had never used one or know much of them, hence why i was asking gossy-- yea i think it best to use the air rifle for the rats, probably even the pigeons. atb Mark There is no mention, anywhere above, of us telling you not to use a 12 bore in a barn, every post refers to a .410, as per your original question.
