hi bullmastiff, what an awesome account of the weekend! much more info and better put than i could have ever done it! my attempt was poor.

i thought that we might get people being skeptical about working mastiffs! haha if only we did have a video camera but i'm not sure that we would want to be publishing this sort of thing anyway!

looking forward to hooking up again asap.

here is a pic of flash for those of you that are interested.

Thank you for the Comments guys.

great read there, how long you bein working your mastiff ? did you get it from a pup ? pm me if you prefer, atb

I've owned her since 8 weeks old, we got her as a guard dog after getting broken into. She had problems at about 5-6 months old (swallowed 5 socks!), so stayed very small and light. She used to follow my old Spaniel into the hedges and caught her first rabbit at about 16-18 month's old. I started taking her to work with me at about 3yrs old (I was a gamekeeper at the time), Tia would run next to the Gator and then potter about when feeding and walking round the pens checking the wire. That's when she caught her first, dealt with it and retrieved it back! lol

She still potters about with me and Roo as it keeps her fit and she doesn't get in the way, but she's about 7yrs old now (which is fairly old for a Mastiff!) so I don't think she'll be able to catch her own any more.

I still work her with the Air rifle and her retrieve is as good as it ever was. Also use her as muscle to back Roo up if he needs it.

no offence how could that dog catch a rabbit on the run any videos mate just curious cant see how they can do it atb cusack theres got to be more work in a sick note than there is in one of them

None taken :good: (even after your first comment  )

I've got nothing to prove by posting on here, I'm not stating their the best/fastest/meanest or even toughest. Theres an enormous amount of dogs out there that could beat mine at anything and everything. I just had a good weekend and thought I'd share it.

If Terriers/Bassets can and do catch good numbers of rabbits I don't see why you think an Alano or Bullmastiff can't catch a few, I've never tried fooling anyone into thinking Tia was a world beater, far from it! but she could catch rabbits and other things.

Only video I've got of Tia is her retrieving whilst working with the Shotgun under general licence and a crap one of Roo on the Lamp. A few people have seen both of mine run and a few have seen photo's of them properly working but I'm not going to post them.

You got any photo's or video's of your pets working?

Most breeds can do some sort of work, you just need to find out what it's good at and find a quarry/job to suit (virtually any breed will fetch?) I'm sure they'll never be world beaters but as long as they (and you) have fun and it keeps them fit then I don't see the problem in it? Try it, you might even get some weight off that staff of yours lol :good:.

All the Best

Luke.
