The demand for clean shot beasts have never been greater than the last few seasons. Game dealer`s are always on the look out for excuses to penalise and deduct the price off a carcass that you present to them. So you really have to be on top of your game with the presentation and transportation of carcasses.

Rightfully so that they should keep there standards high and have the right to refuse poor shot or incorrectly keep beasts i mean after all they are for human consumption, shelf life and customer satisfaction is king.

A correctly bled out carcass is one of the main things that they insist on so in the next breath they then normally follow up with the demand for neck or head shot beasts..

Here`s a young staggie that was shot early yesterday, quite large for his age in top nick and in the process of being bled out.

Good post mate .Correct carcass handling /treatment is second only to shot placement. With dealers insisting more and more on head/neck shots i cant help thinking there will be more walking wounded though .Only my veiw ,just lucky that the my dealer excepts all clean carcasses however shot .

Spot on. Respecting the animal after you've pulled the trigger by ensuring the carcass stays in the best condition possible :yes: Whether you're selling to a game dealer or keeping for your own consumption isits more satisfying to do a good job.

I prefer to put it straight through the ribs Bog there`s a much larger kill zone and less room for error. Though some divi`s can even feck that type of shot up..

I noticed the cryptic message in your post Local about "spots and respect" though that doesn't appeal to some professionals if you haven't noticed

Anyway back to the serious stuff.

In the past i have used all types of disinfectant to wash Knives, camera`s , bino`s, gun stocks and work surfaces some smell nicer than others and some are dearer than others.

But not all offer the same type of protection as this was explained to me whilst having an off the record discussion with an off duty Health Inspector.

He recommended one type that i should use which was called Virkon"S. Its expensive stuff but i complied to just to lick his arse and get him off my back as well as gain a few points off the game dealer.

It`s absolute paramount that the transportation quarters for meat destined for the food chain is kept as clean as can be., regularly power washed out and treated for any cross contamination.

Good post, have you tried using probe wipes? I use them for knives and general kit then use virkon for the back of the vehicle as a scrub. The probe wipes easily fit in a roe sack so you can use them after bleeding and again after opening up the cavity to prevent contaminating inside the carcass. They come in a tub just like baby wipes but they are bactericidal. You can get them on ebay if you're interested.

Probe wipes sound`s like what Darcy carry`s about with him when he`s cruising the country meeting other men  There just another industrial made baby wet wipe and must admit quite useful.

Foxhunter i use new nylon builder`s bags to drag the one`s up to about two years of age and then after that self control patience and skill is needed to sort the bigger one`s out.

In other words you have to wait for them to get in the right places before pulling the trigger..

Builder`s bag like these..
